HERO - PD GRAPHIC ADVENTURE GAME
This game has been around for a while but is a golden oldie that
deserves another reviewing for anyone into Dungeons and dragons type
games.
Basically , Hero is a graphical joystick and mouse controlled
adventure role playing game that one player can play on his own.
Firstly uou must load in a character from which there are four to
choose from that come with the game, or you can make your own in the
character editor program.
Once loaded in, it's straight into the action. The first room is very
simple, all you need to do is collect the three objects in the room,
read the scroll and proceed to the next one. Reading the scroll was of
the upmost importance in that level! The levels become progressively
harder and the puzzles more complicated. You also have various magic
spells which you can cast and these range from creating fireballs to
simply opening doors. More spells can be collected on your journey,
but it helps to use them as sparingly as possible.
It's all too easy to keep casting spells to get you out of tricky
situations! I found the best thing to do was to think hard, have a
cup of coffee, and think hard again. If that doesn't work then have a
slightly stiffer drink! Um, thinking about it maybe that's not a good
idea!
Your hero is moved with the joystick and the options such as casting
spells and collecting objects are mouse contolled.
Graphically there is nothing outstanding about the game, but there are
plenty of different monsters and objects that are all drawn to high
enough standards to match games such as gauntlet. In fact the layout
is like gauntlet in 2D, which I prefer for a better overall view of
what position your hero is in.
This is an excellent game, well designed and with plenty of lasting
appeal, especially with the ability to create your own characters.
This is a shareware game, and well worth sending the dosh off for as
in return you'll get a hint book and extra characters and levels.
