  1.                         LQ100 PRINTER REVIEW

  4. For those of you who intend to buy a printer but, like many folk these
  5. days, have very little to spend on one, the Epson LQ100 printer may be
  6. right up your street.
  7.  
  8. The LQ100 is a 24  pin  high  quality  dot  matrix printer that offers
  9. letter quality printing at a budget price. It has seven built in fonts
  10. including Roman, Sans  Serif,  Courier,  Prestige,  Script,  Draft and
  11. Draft Condensed. The  control  panel  is  pretty  basic  with just two
  12. buttons that do everything!
  13. The fonts are very easy to  select  with  2 lights that tell you which
  14. printing mode you are in. For  instance,  if  the printer is set for a
  15. Roman font then both lights come on, if  it is set for script then one
  16. light flashes and the other is off. A chart is provided on the control
  17. panel to make things very simple indeed.

  19. The design of the LQ100 is unique as it looks more like an Inkjet than
  20. a Dot matrix  printer.  The  printer  can  stand  on  it's  end whilst
  21. printing too if you are short for space!
  22. Paoer handling is good with  a  load  tray  that slides from the front
  23. which can take up  to  50  sheets  of  normal  typewriting A4 paper or
  24. smaller. Paper handling is fully automatic  using the load tray or you
  25. can feed in single sheets from  the  back  of  the printer but this is
  26. rather awkward. There is also the  option  to buy a tractor feeder for
  27. listing paper for about £60 or less.

  29. Print quality is as you would expect from Epson, of a high quality and
  30. in Roman mode it is  exceptional.  The  printer is reasonably quiet at
  31. around 46dcb in some modes but  can  be  noisier depending on what you
  32. are printing. The  speed  of  printing  is  quite  fast  at  up to 200
  33. charcters per second in draft mode.

  35. With a good selection of  fonts,  high quality printing, dual position
  36. operation, and a price  tag  of  around  £169,  the  Epson  LQ100 is a
  37. bargain and I would recommend it to anyone on a tight budget.
