Talking Clock
I just recently discovered STSPEECH.TOS and was sort of mezmorized
with it and wondered what I could do with it when I read about the
Atari Falcon coming out with a talking clock.I asked around and no one
had heard of a talking clock for the ST,so with the help of
STSPEECH.TOS I set out to create one.
It is a desk accessory written in assembler. All you have to do is
include TALKCLOK.ACC and STSPEECH.TOS in the root directory of
the disk that you boot with.STSPEECH.TOS will automatically boot when
the desk accessory itself boots and stays resident all the while the
computer is on.You should have no problems even if you forget to
include Stspeech with Talkclok.acc because you will get a warning
saying that it can't be found on the disk.So if it is not
present, simply put the disk containing Stspeech in the active
drive, click on Talking Clock in the menu and it will load. You can do
this at anytime you like, not neccessarily on boot up as long as Talkclok.
Acc is resident. But always remember to do this from the desktop and never
from within another program that you are running because of the way the
ST allocates memory.Talking Clock will work fine from within that program
but a problem will occur when you quit that program. The computer will
crash when you call Talking Clock from the menu.So it's better to have
the two programs together when you boot and you won't have to worry
about problems. Also the clock does not set the time, that is up to you.It
only reports what it finds in the ST's internal clock.
I would like to thank a few people for their info about
STSPEECH.TOS.Without their source codes I couldn't have made this
program. They supplied me with entry points, places to get out of those
points, and buffer info about STSPEECH.TOS.This things were invaluable
to me.Those people are Hutch Hutchison,Steve Bate and Chris
Williams. Thanks guys. And to the stars of the show, the authors of
STSPEECH.TOS.,A.D.Beveridge and M.N.Day.
STSPEECH.TOS is public domain and I am putting my part of the
program into PD also,as long as this text goes along with it.If you
would like the source code on disk, written in assembler and heavily
commented,to what I have done,send $15.00 to:
