  3. Here   you  can  read  all  about  what  you  can  do  with   our 
  4. correspondence  address  (üST  NEWSÇ,  Kievitstraat  50,  5702  LE, 
  5. Helmond, The  Netherlands),  like sending in articles for use  in
  6. üST  NEWSÇ, remarks,  critics,  subscribing, ordering Public Domain
  7. software, etc.

  9. Subscribing to üST NEWSÇ

  11. Since  üST NEWSÇ Volume 1 Issue 3 was  launched,  over half a  year 
  12. ago,  it is possible to subscribe to üST NEWSÇ.  The setup is  very 
  13. simple:  You  simply send us an empty,  formatted,  single  sided 
  14. disk, together with enough stamps (or International Reply Coupons 
  15. if  you live outside of Holland) and a note which says  "Next  üST 
  16. NEWSÇ".  We  will then take care that you get any new issue of  üST 
  17. NEWSÇ immediately after its launch.  This way,  it is possible  to 
  18. get it within two days if you live in Holland or a matter of  one 
  19. or two weeks of you live abroad.  You can also order  back-issues 
  20. of  üST  NEWSÇ (read more about that in the article "How  to  order 
  21. back-issues"),  with  which  you must not forget to  mention  the 
  22. volume  number of the issues you want.  Don't close your envelope 
  23. too tightly,  since we must be able to use that same envelope  to 
  24. send the stuff back to you.  If you do, however, you can also add 
  25. an additional envelope in your package.  Ordering üST NEWSÇ is free 
  26. of  costs,  except for the post and the disks (you simply  supply 
  27. those  yourself),  but  donations  are always  welcome  (my  giro 
  28. account number will undoubtedly be found somewhere in this  issue 
  29. of üST NEWSÇ). Please refer to the article about our PD Library for 
  30. correct  postage  quantities for certain numbers of disks  to  be 
  31. sent.  Please don't add foreign currencies,  as it takes quite  a 
  32. lot of trouble to exchange e.g. 2000 lire in a bank here.

  34. Remarks,  critics,  comments,  etc.  to üST NEWSÇ and/or any of our 
  35. other products (such as our Synth Samples).

  37. Each time we finish an issue of üST NEWSÇ or another product  (like 
  38. Synth  Samples),  we want to be sure that it answers to  as  many 
  39. needs  as possible.  Therefore,  we need to know your  needs  and 
  40. opinions about üST NEWSÇ as well as all our other products.  One of 
  41. the main things that was achieved recently through criticism  was 
  42. the  fact  that üST NEWSÇ was too big in size.  You  see:  We  have 
  43. splitted  it into parts so even people with about 160 Kb of  free 
  44. memory  can enjoy it.  Whatever we do,  we try to make  you,  our 
  45. readers,  as happy and satisfied as possible.  If you think we do 
  46. something wrong, please write to us as soon as possible so we can 
  47. have a look at a solution or compromise.  If you want a  personal 
  48. answer to your remarks or critics,  please be sure to add  stamps 
  49. or International Reply Coupons (the latter if you live outside of 
  50. Holland;  please  add TWO of those every time you write) in  your 
  51. envelope.

  53. GfA Basic problems

  55. Since  I  am  currently also working for the  "Stichting  ST"  in 
  56. Holland for their GfA Basic problems column,  as well as the  SAG 
  57. and ST Club Eindhoven, I will hereby offer this  same possibility 
  58. to all readers of üST  NEWSÇ.  Simply  write down your problem 
  59. (together with programs on disk, if necessary) and send it to our
  60. correspondence  address.  Be  sure  to  add  postage  (stamps  or 
  61. International Reply Coupons) of course.  I will try to solve your
  62. problem or I will try to  let someone else solve  the  problem if 
  63. I wouldn't be able to do it myself (because of a lack of time  or 
  64. a lack of knowledge).  Most problems will also be treated in  the
  65. GfA  Basic  Tips  &  Tricks column of üST NEWSÇ  as  well  as  that 
  66. contained in the magazines of the "Stichting ST", the SAG and the
  67. ST  Club  Eindhoven.  It might just be nice to  know that there's
  68. someone  out here that will try to help  you  with  any  of  your 
  69. problems  (that he will surely have  had  earlier himself in most 
  70. cases).

  72. Sending in articles for use in üST NEWSÇ
  73.  
  74. You'll  understand  that  it is impossible for me  to  write  all 
  75. articles in üST NEWSÇ by myself;  that's where we need you, to send 
  76. in  some articles for use in üST NEWSÇ.  Many people  have  already 
  77. sent  in articles,  mostly about subjects that I don't know  much 
  78. about (like machine language,  astrology programs,  numerological 
  79. computations,  writing your own adventures on the ST and articles 
  80. about several hardware projects).  The conditions for sending  in 
  81. articles are very simple:  You just write an article using either 
  82. "1st Word" or "1st Word Plus",  and you send it to us on a single 
  83. sided  disk.  Please don't forget to add stamps or  International 
  84. Reply Coupons (the latter if you live outside of Holland) if  you 
  85. want the stuff to be returned to you.  Now,  what are the  things 
  86. you need to look out for?

  89. -  All  articles have to have a page layout that  results  in  22 
  90. lines per page
  91. -  You must have used Justify and Word Wrap in WP Mode
  92. -  You must have used 65 characters per line
  93. -  You must not use any (conditional or whatever) pagebreaks  (or
  94. footnotes)
  95. -  You must write in correct English
  96. -  You  mustn't  use super-subscript and other  font  styles  too 
  97. often; that makes the text a bit 'busy' and 'messy'
  98. -  If you offer programs/listings on disk, you must refer to them
  99. in your article
  100. -  You mustn't use pictures!  This only confines these  documents 
  101. to a certain resolution, which isn't our target
  102. -   Whenever  you  mention üST NEWSÇ,  write it down  in  bold  and 
  103. capitals
  104. -  Watch your English!  Plurals are without a comma,  so  Samples 
  105. instead of Sample's. And usual, useful, etc. are with one 'l'!
  106. Since we have no income of any kind (except for a few donations), 
  107. we aren't able to pay our writers any amount of money whatsoever. 
  108. Therefore,  writing for üST NEWSÇ is done out of  knowledge-sharing 
  109. reasons  instead of writing articles just for the money.  On  one 
  110. side,  this keeps the articles of true and high quality,   but on 
  111. the other side we feel we have little to offer to our writers. We 
  112. still hope you'll find it useful to write articles for us, and we 
  113. are looking forward to hearing from you.

  117. * Synth Samples
  118. Since our Synth Samples tend to be nice to look at and to  listen 
  119. to,  they might help selling ST computers in a computer shop.  We 
  120. already  have produced some custom versions of our Synth  Samples 
  121. to some well known computer shops in Holland and  Germany;  these 
  122. mostly  exist of regular Synth Samples with one or  two  pictures 
  123. replaced  by advertisement artwork (like the shop's logo or  so). 
  124. Please contact us if you're interested in having your own  custom 
  125. Synth  Sample (by the way,  we only do this with Synth Sample  II 
  126. and our latest offering Synth Sample III). The typical time it'll 
  127. take  when it's ready will be about half a month. But it might be 
  128. sooner.  Just feel free to enquire about this exclusive  service, 
  129. and don't forget to enclose stamps or International Reply Coupons 
  130. if you want us to answer you properly.  Up to a certain limit, we 
  131. are also able to adapt other dia-shows for your own  (commercial)

  133. * Commercial software
  134. Since we feel we deserve our strength mainly because of the  many 
  135. software  reviews of very current software,  we think üST NEWSÇ  is 
  136. THE magazine to have your programs reviewed in. People of various 
  137. software houses have already sent us stuff to review and they all 
  138. are very satisfied.  What about G-Data,  Rushware,  Golden Games, 
  139. Commedia,   Alphatronic,  Psygnosis,  Tommy  Software,  and  many 
  140. others.   And  we're  still  negotiating  with  Starsoft,  Boston 
  141. Computer,  Epyx,  SubLOGIC,  Pharma Data Systems and many others. 
  142. Good  co-operation  has thus far resulted in quality  reviews  of 
  143. quality software (sometimes,  in cases of e.g.  "Time Blast"  and 
  144. "Super  Huey"  less  quality software).  Just send  in  some  new 
  145. programs that you think we would be interested in reviewing,  and 
  146. we'll do the rest.  If you want us to send the stuff back, please 
  147. state this clearly and add stamps or International Reply Coupons.

  155. * Public Domain software
  156. If  you think you have written a very nice program,  and  if  you 
  157. have decided on spreading it through the Public Domain, we may be 
  158. able to help you spread it. I must say that we are quite tough in 
  159. our  decisions  whether  a programs is or is not  allowed  to  be 
  160. included in our PD library.  Unlike many PD libraries,  we  don't 
  161. want  quantity  but we want quality.  We don't just  publish  any 
  162. program  that appears in the Freeware circuit,  because we  don't 
  163. need  to  say "we have the largest PD  library  there  is!".  You 
  164. simply send in your programs to us on a single sided disk  (we're 
  165. not yet interested in double sided stuff),  together with  enough 
  166. stamps  or International Reply Coupons so we can send  your  disk 
  167. back to you. Please refer to our article about our PD Library for 
  168. correct quantities of postage for certain amounts of disks.
  169. Since üST NEWSÇ is,  above all,  a magazine, we can also publish an 
  170. article  about your program,  to promote it a bit or  to  explain 
  171. what is does or wat it can do (we publish these articles all  the 
  172. time  for our own products,  like Synth Sample III & IV  in  this 
  173. very issue of üST NEWSÇ).

  177. Public Domain service
  178.  
  179. We still are the cheapest PD service anywhere in Europe: We still 
  180. offer our PD free of any charge. You simply supply us with a disk 
  181. or several disks and enough stamps or International Reply Coupons 
  182. and  we'll do the rest.  But read more about this in the  article 
  183. about our "PD Library"!

  187. Since  we  get more readers by the day,  üST NEWSÇ offers  a  great 
  188. service to get rid of all your problems and to get answers to all 
  189. your questions in the "Questions & Answers" column,  elsewhere to 
  190. be found in this issue of üST NEWSÇ.  You can ask here whatever you 
  191. need to know, and non-commercial advertisements are also allowed. 
  192. We will try to answer your questions ourselves,  and if we aren't 
  193. able  to do that we will shake heaven and earth to  have  someone 
  194. else  do it for us (we have therefore established  good  contacts 
  195. with  several people who know a lot,  like some people at  Atari, 
  196. people at GfA Systemtechnik and all our programmers).  Just  send 
  197. your  question,  written  clearly on a piece  of  paper,  to  our 
  198. correspondence address.  You'll be able to find the answer(s)  in 
  199. an  upcoming  issue of üST NEWSÇ,  so you don't need  to  send  any 
  200. postage for the way back in these cases ('cause we don't need  to 
  201. send anything back).

  206. currently  selling  Low Price Software  (Cheapware)  through  our

  210. Any  correspondence  with the editorial staff of üST NEWSÇ  can  be 
  211. done in Dutch, German or English. We are afraid we don't know one 
  212. word of e.g.  French (except for "non" and "jetaime") so we  will 
  213. probably  not be able to help you.  Best is to write English  all 
  214. the time,  except if you live in Holland in which case you  might 
  215. better use Dutch.
