  3. In  the  previous  issue  of üST  NEWSÇ,  you  could  already  read 
  4. something about a new and quite revolutionary initiative that had 
  5. been  launched by ST Club Eindhoven - selling software at  prices 
  6. between  PD and commercial software called "Low Price  Software". 
  7. In  this  article  I want to review the  two  programs  that  can 
  8. currently  be  obtained,  but first I want to display a  list  of 
  9. software  that will shortly be available through this  initiative 
  10. (the programs can also be bought through üST NEWSÇ):

  29. Let's go on with the reviews I promised. First: "Strikey". In the 
  30. "ST Software News"  article of last time's issue of üST NEWSÇ,  one 
  31. could already read a preview of this program in which I have been 
  32. a  bit  harsh.  The "Strike-a-Light"  guys  immediately  thought: 
  33. "Shit!  We  will have to build in a few improvements!".  So  they 
  34. did. The new version of "Strikey", which can be recognized by the 
  35. fact that you need not put the mouse in the upper lefthand corner 
  36. of the screen at the beginning anymore, is much better. The first 
  37. level  has  been changed (this due to problems  that  might  have 
  38. arisen  when the original - very "PacMan"-like - would have  been 
  39. sold  worldwide)  and the overall graphics have  been  made  much 
  40. better  as well.  The joystick movements still have to be  gotten 
  41. used to,  but are much better now.  The irritating high tone that 
  42. used to reveal itself when the ghosties were about to get  normal 
  43. again  has been replaced by a more decent sound and some  of  the 
  44. old bugs have been removed as well.  Now, it can be called a very 
  45. addictive  game,  especially if you have always been a kind of  a 
  46. "PacMan"  freak.  Especially when compared with the  price,  this 
  47. game  can  really  make  it  throughout  Europe  -  and   perhaps 
  48. throughout the world with the help of üST NEWSÇ).

  50. Now,  let's  go on with "The ArtiST+" of my good old  pal  Stefan 
  51. Posthuma.  He already wrote "The ArtiST",  a drawing program  for 
  52. monochrome  monitors  that is currently  available  through  many 
  53. Public Domain libraries (also through ours).  But he has recently 
  54. launched a far more enhanced version,  called "The  ArtiST+".  It 
  55. still  works  only on monochrome monitors,  but  it  offers  some 
  56. stunning features:

  58. - A maximum of 15 workscreens
  59. - Circle, draw, box, etc. in zoom mode
  60. - Several zoom levels
  61. - Fast drawing functions
  62.

  67. The  whole  program is written in GfA Basic and  is  totally  GEM 
  68. controlled.  It  only  works  on machines with  one  Megabyte  of 
  69. memory,  but  that's about the only limitation.  Working with the 
  70. program is very easy,  though you indeed have to get used to  the 
  71. menu  operations  if you've previously worked  with  e.g.  "Degas 
  72. (Elite)" or "MonoSTar(+)".  The block options are very  extensive 
  73. indeed as well.  Sinus, bend, fold, resize, and many more options 
  74. are included.  A user manual (a bit short, though) is included in 
  75. the package.

  77. 'Til now,  Low Price Software has given birth to some  remarkable 
  78. programs  of  quite high quality.  In the near  future,  ST  Club 
  79. Eindhoven  will  launch  more  of  these  programs  (among  which 
  80. probably  a Dutch version of üST NEWSÇ that will include  the  most 
  81. interesting  articles from all past issues - more about  that  in 
  82. the editorial column!).  If ST Club Eindhoven continues with this 
  83. initiative,  it  might bring down software prices a bit  -  which 
  84. isn't all that bad of course.  That's why Low Price Software  can 
  85. also be obtained through üST NEWSÇ.
