Welcome to the last ST NEWS I will be the senior editor of: ST NEWS Volume 3 Issue 2, published on Wednesday, April 6th 1988 (in my Easter holiday, when I should in fact be studying very hard for my exams). The next issues will be edited by Stefan Posthuma, and will thus be published through Digital Insanity Corp. As I write this, my heart feels heavy. Not only because this is my last issue of ST NEWS, but also because I am still feeling depressed because Willeke was here last Monday (for only three hours - that's the reason). Lucky enough, I will be visiting her for two days starting tomorrow, so there's at least something for me to look forward to. Where was I? Ah! I was writing the introduction scroll for this final ACC issue of ST NEWS (sigh). As you must have noticed by now, this issue is not actually dedicated to the most bestirring, enchanting, charming and fantastic girl on earth, Willeke, but dedicated to someone who used to be known as "the Guitar Wizard"....Jimi Hendrix. Please note that this does not mean that my emotions for her have changed...NO! I just felt that I had to do something else for a change. And Jimi Hendrix is quite bestirring in his field, too, don't you agree? While I am typing this, a chilly breeze whirls around the house but the sun is shining so the temperature is rising slowly (but that might also be due to the fact that I will be visiting Willeke tomorrow). A "Slayer" record is busting my speakers (as usual), but that's already on its end. Wait a minute............aaaah....(deep sigh)....my speakers shrink back to their original sizes when I switch to one of the David T. Chastain albums I have recently acquired: "Instrumental Variation". This is one of the most recent additions to my musical horizons, being one of those neo-classical guitar heroes that I learned to like recently. Add to that Joe Satriani and you have all good guitar players in the world combined (Satriana is the learning master of David Lee Roth's and ex-Alcatrazz' Steve Vay). But let's quit about my musical habits and switch to that for which scrolling messages are usually used: The thanks and credits. They go to.....Stefan Posthuma: For his willingness to take over ST NEWS gradually, so that I can study without having to let the quality of ST NEWS decrease.....Stefan's boss: For arranging 'things'.....Willeke: For not being too mad at me when I told her about me and Jimi Hendrix.....Harry van Horen (Homesoft): For ever increasing loads of software.....Math Claessens: Guess it yourself.....Mark van den Boer: For arranging the "Prophecy" Queensrÿche bootleg album - superb!! Also, for finishing his MC 68000 Course successfully.....Mr. C. Jansen: For being able to continue the Forth Course in spite of health matters.....Lucas van den Berg: For the article about "Ultima III" as well as a review of that program's sequel.....Jimi Hendrix (may he RIP): For being one of the old-time guitar heroes.....Wim Nottroth & Fransisco van Jole: For much ST NEWS advertisement in PCM and for interviewing Frank and me on radio with regard to the virus problem.....Hubert van Mil: For advise in business matters concerning the commercialised "Virus Destruction Utility".....STRIKE-a-LIGHT: For being ever so helpful in many respects (battling the virus, money, ST NEWS, you name it).....Maarten de Rijk: For developing a revolutionary new RAM disk program ("5 in 1 RAM disk", reviewed in this very issue of ST NEWS).....Willeke: Oops! I forgot to thank her for writing an article for this time's ST NEWS!.....Udo, Erik, Jochen, Günter and Michael from TEX: For one of the most sleepless and funny weekend in my life (read all about that in this issue of ST NEWS as well!!).....John de Bruyn: For his "Disk Magazines" article.....Tracey Jenkins (Microdeal): For much support, many promises, "ST Soccer" and (soon) "Journey into the Lair"(!!).....Adrie van der WeÆden and Elektronikaland: For several things.....Sue Winslow (Telecom Software): For sending the 'game of 1988', "Return to Genesis"!!.....my dad: For staying off my back for about four weeks in a row......Evelien: For inspiring Stefan, our master programmer.....Frank Lemmen: (nearly forgot him) For excessive writing, as usual.....Eidersoft: For the new review status.....Microprose: For all the software and many (MANY!) press releases.....Thierry Foulkes (our French distributor): For trying to teach the French English.....Holger Gehrmann: For still working on "Synth Sample V" compositions.....Irene Tel (sister of world famous C-64 music programmer Jeroen): For getting me into touch with David T. Chastain.....the SAG: For lots of fun and spectacular scenes at the recent SAG day in Den Bosch, Holland.....Steve Bak: For finally proving that SMOOTH horizontal scrolling is possible on the ST!.....Psygnosis: For finishing "Obliterator" just in time for it being too late to be reviewed in this issue of ST NEWS.....all Dutch PD libraries: For the good arrangements that were made with regard to the fact that ST NEWS is no longer normal Public Domain in Holland.....Willem Egels: For attention given to the new "Virus Destruction Utility" in Holland's biggest newspaper.....Stephan Englhart: For warning me about an upcoming virus.....the Bayerische Hacker Post: For having made that virus (assholes!!!).....Jan Mes: For working on a "Word Perfect" course that will soon be started in ST NEWS.....Ruud van de Kruisweg: For more 'stop press' news.....Wietske: For letting it all take such a long time.....Slagerij van Kampen: For selling me one of those fabulous Roland TR-505 drum computers.....Precision Software: For the same reason as Psygnosis, but now with regard to "Superbase Professional".....David Lawson: For losing all the questions I had asked him for an interview through the post.....Ben Daglish: For what he must still do (IF he ever does it).....Rob Hubbard: For complimenting the TEX guys on their "B.I.G. Demo".....Mad Max (Jochen from TEX): Again, for making the fabulous music contained in ST NEWS - "Thrust" from Firebird. It is very interesting to listen to the real Rob Hubbard version and Jochen's.....and you, reading this, for copying/hiring/lending/whatever ST NEWS. Remember that it is Public Domain and that the product may be copied as much as you want to everyone you like (and even those you don't like). Do mind that, if you're selling ST NEWS through a Public Domain library in Holland, you have to contact me before about royalties (one guilder per disk sold - isn't that reasonable?). For more infor about this topic, please refer to the ST NEWS Colofon, somewhere in this issue of ST NEWS..... As I wrote the latter few kilobytes of text, Chastain's record was finished. Now, an album called "Speed Metal Symphony" from Cacophony (Jason Becker and Martin Friedman on the guitarz) is audible (not only in my room, but also in the entire block of houses I live in). Unfortunately, there's vocals on this record as well, which I really don't like (ever heard vocalist Leather sing on Chastain's "Ruler of the Wastelands"? Ough!). I thought I would succeed in filling this scrolling message for the 12th time very easily, but it turns out that my inspiration is starting to run low. What must I possibly write down in the last couple of bytes? I honestly don't know....no wonder...12*8= almost 100 kbyte of scrolling text in a little over a year.....oooof. I am relieved of that in the future (poor Stefan). But aha!!!!.....the end is nearing rapidly so I can stop with this chatting and all..... And before I forget it: If you think ST NEWS is better than most other PD material, or if you just consider it worthy a donation, please immediately start donating any amount of money on giro account number 5060326 t.n.v. Richard Karsmakers, Helmond, The Netherlands. If you decide to do so, my eternal (and indeed everlasting) gratitude would be your part. It's about time to make an end to this scrolling message, as memory runs out....Again, there's a simple question at the end: Who is the Jimi Hendrix or Rolls Royce amongst the girls?.........You know it!..............Willeke, still!!
