The 'Eighties' with it's Spectrum 48k was a time of addictive game
playing and in my opinion the best games you could possibly ask for with
such great titles as Jetpac' Jet set Willy' & that classic
<PICSHOWD>192,047,304,199,224
character Wanted Monty Mole. His first adventure started
with a cold winter and bone chilling christmas ahead,
Monty makes a daring coal snatching raid to his local
south yorkshire pit. Grabbing a miner's bucket he
heads off into the darkness soon to wish he had
caught a cold instead.
The game featured 'Flying pickets, Deadly
hairsprays and do you remember those Coal Crusher's
they got me everytime but these kind of games were
really addictive and kept me going back time after
time. The man responsible for giving us Monty Mole
was Peter Harrap i wonder what he is doing now.
No doubt all of us who owned a spectrum in them
day's would have played other games such as
another favourite of mine 'Highway Encounter by
Vortex, which had you controlling one of the five
Vortons, whose job was to clear a path and push a
bomb down the highway to the enemies base. The follow
<PICSHOWD>000,064,064,083,240
up to this game was called 'Alien Highway which was
basically more of the same but with added danger's.

If you wanted to relive that spectrum experience then try and get a copy
of one of the retro fanzines that exist today, they contain information on
where to buy those old classic's along with a kempston interface and any other
hardware that you might need to regain that old forgotten feeling. You can
of course track down a 'Multiface" the most powerful thing in the universe
by using the fanzines search finder. So you can now cheat at those games you
never had time to finish. I have listed below a few fanzines that are going
very strong with each issue released, if you are looking for anything spectrum
related then one of these fanzines will be able to help you find that old
spectrum timeless classic.

If you own a playstation then you are in luck because there are three
Namco Museum CD's available and no doubt you should find something to get that
retro feeling but there is no comparison to actually playing Jetpac on a
Spectrum 48k or if you haven't got one of them, a spectrum +2 will do. If you
want to find out more about all those forgotten machines and not just the
speccy' perhaps you are after a Vic' 20 then i'm sure you'll find it in one of
the fanzines. I'm off to play another level of Monty Mole.....See ya!
