MAGBASE PROGRAM FILES
For correct operation of this
program the following files are all
required to be present in the same
directory.
MAGBASE.PRG
MAGBASE.RSC
MAGBASE.HLP
PRINTER.CFG

When a .MAG file is loaded from
disk its window appears on the desktop,
displaying the BINDERS contained in the
file.
Each binder contains a number of
MAGAZINES. A binder may be opened by
double clicking on its name. The window
will then display the list of magazines
which are contained in the binder.

Each magazine contains a number of
ARTICLES which can be accessed by double
clicking on the appropriate magazine
name. The article form allows articles
to be added to the list, deleted from
the list, altered, printed etc..
More than one file may be opened on
the desktop - each is given its own
window.

A new file can be created by using
the Open File menu option and entering a
filename which does not exist on disk.
Binders and magazines can then be added.
SAVE FILE Page 5
Selecting the Save File menu option
causes the current file (file whose
window is at top) to be saved to disk
under its current filename as displayed
in the window title bar.
SAVE AS...
This option allows the name of the
current file to be changed and the file
will be saved under this new filename.
DELETE FILE Page 6
Allows files to be deleted from
disk.
MERGE
A disk file can be merged with the
current file in memory. If the merge
operation cannot be completed, due to
insufficient memory space, a warning is
given.
CLOSE FILE Page 7
A file may be closed and deleted
from memory by selecting the Close File
menu option or by clicking on the
window's close box.
If the close box is clicked when in
magazine level then the current binder
is closed.
QUIT Page 8
Selecting this menu option will
cause the program to be terminated. Make
sure all changes have been saved before
selecting it.
ADD BINDER Page 9
New binders can be added to the
current file by selecting the Add Binder
menu option. A dialogue box is displayed
allowing the binder name and year to be
entered.
This operation can only be
performed at binder level.
ADD MAGAZINE Page 10
Magazines can be added in a binder
which is already open. A dialogue box is
displayed and the magazine date, volume
and number can be entered.
ADDING ARTICLES
Articles can be added through the
article form (double click on the
appropriate magazine).
RENAME MAGAZINE/BINDER Page 11
To change the binder/magazine data
the binder/magazine must first be
selected by clicking on it. The Rename
option can then be selected from the
EDIT menu and the data altered.
To select more than one binder/
magazine hold down the SHIFT key while
clicking.
DELETE MAGAZINE/BINDER Page 12
A selected binder/magazine can be
deleted by choosing the Delete option.
This will cause all the articles and/or
magazines in the selected magazine/
binder to be deleted from memory.
SORT ARTICLES Page 13
This menu option allows the way in
which the articles are to be sorted in a
file. If there is more than one file the
option to sort all files in memory is
given. All articles subsequently entered
will be sorted in this way.
Binders and magazines are always
sorted by date and year.
SEARCH Page 14
To search for an article or
articles the search data is entered in
the Search Options dialogue box. This
will initiate the search which will
start at the first article in the first
file. Once the first article has been
found the next one can be located by
clicking on the SEARCH button on the
article form.

To search a field for more than one
piece of information use the '\'
character. e.g. Entering 'DTP\WORD' will
find all occurrences of DTP and WORD
separately.
RESET PRINTER Page 16
The printer may be reset at any
time by selecting this menu option. This
will cause a title bar to be printed and
the top of form to be set at the current
printer head position.
When a continuous print out reaches
the end of a page the title will be
printed out at the top of the next page.
PRINT MAGAZINE/BINDER Page 17
This option will print out all the
articles in the selected binder or
magazine.
PRINT FILE
Will print all articles in the
current file.
PRINTER.CFG FILE Page 18
The PRINTER.CFG file is an ASCII
file containing information used by the
program to format the printer output.
The file may be edited by any ASCII
text editor or by FIRST WORD PLUS with
WP mode off.
The printer codes stored in the
file must be in hexadecimal and
separated by commas only.
