THE ST SOUND LAB
Designed and Programmed
By Chris Skellern
February 1990
Creating a sound for use within a game
or utility would ussually end up with
me 'borrowing' someone elses work or
stabbing away recklessly at the sound
chip in the hope that i may create the
sound i need.
While writing my current game though it
soon became apparent that this 'sound
programming method' wasnt going to work.
What was needed was a means of easy
experiment with the sound chip and
prehaps most importantly a means of
saving the sounds to a disc where they
can be included later within the game,
utility or whatever.
And this is basically what the SOUND LAB
is all about,a simple means of reaching
and programming the processors registers
without the headaches of working out bit
patterns,course and fine values,etc etc.
The program itself is pretty self
explanatory ,being practically 100%
mouse controlled with the keyboard only
used for text input.Information and help
are always available at any time by
selecting the 'INFO' icon.
The program does away with the VDI and
AES calls so booting directly from an
AUTO folder is possible.
Finally should anyone wish for a copy of
the assembler source code,please contact
me at the address below and please
enclose a blank disc/sae.
