-- Mini MIDI #1 --
<<< The PANIC BUTTON >>>
Brought to you by:
NOIZ BOYZ Software <tm>
The Mini MIDI series is a collection of small MIDI utilities for
your Atari ST, brought to you by NOIZ BOYZ Software <tm>. They are no
frills, functional applications, designed to solve MIDI related
problems with a minimal amount of hassle and memory waste. If you have
any ideas for such a utility let us know and we'll see what we can
come up with.
What is it?
The 'PANIC BUTTON' (which is what you have here) is a program
that can be run as an accessory or a program. To use it as an
accessory name it 'PANIC.ACC', or to use it as a program name it
'PANIC.PRG'. It will be most useful as an accessory because you will
be able to access it from within any GEM <tm> program, such as a
sequencer or patch editor.
So, what's it do?
The PANIC BUTTON does only one thing: It sends a MIDI 'All Notes
Off' signal to all 16 MIDI channels of the devices hooked up to your
MIDI Out port on your ST. Big deal!, you say? Well most of the time
you (hopefully) won't need it, but sometimes MIDI doesn't co-operate
and things like 'stuck notes' occur. This happens when for some reason
or another the 'note on' command gets sent to your device but the
'note off' note doesn't get there. The result is the dreaded 'stuck
note'. When your in your bedroom alone this can be a small hassle,
requiring you to shut off the offending gear or hit all your
keys/strings trying to max out the polyphony to get rid of it. When
you're playing live or in front of your girlfriend / dog / boyfriend /
audience / goldfish / etc... it can make you look mighty stoopid. In
steps the mighty PANIC BUTTON ! With this little baby installed as a
desk accessory, all you'd have to do is casually flick your mouse up
to the 'DESK' menu and select PANIC and your problems are over.
What's the catch?
The PANIC BUTTON only uses about one half a K of your precious
memory so it's not a big deal to have it installed whenever you boot
up for a MIDI session. We've tested it with various ST's running
various popular sequencers with no problems, but remember: Your
mileage may vary! We at NOIZ BOYZ can accept any responsibility for
any for any losses or problems resulting from the use or misuse of our
software. I mean come on,it's good quality, but it IS free!
As stated above, if you have any suggestions for a MIDI related
small utility for the Mini MIDI series let us know! We'll be sure to
mention you in the documentation and send you beta copies for your
input. We're in the process of coming up with a version of PANIC
BUTTON that can be loaded as an AUTO program that would only require a
'Hot Key' to activate, but this accessory version is still much better
than nothing when trouble arises.

BTW, both CodeHead and Double Click produce exceptional software!
PANIC BUTTON is *FreeWare* ! No money may be charged for it
except a *reasonable* copying fee from PD/ShareWare Houses. (Not the
6-8 bucks I've seen lately -- tsk,tsk,tsk. I'm sure the greedy ones
don't write any PD software, either) I still retain all rights to the
program. If for some strange reason you feel like sending us tons of
money (or a few bucks to take the load off) make checks payable to
'Wayne Steinert'.
Other NOIZ BOYZ Software <tm>:
Local Off -- Another Mini MIDI program! Access the 'Local Off'
mode on most MIDI keyboards. (Casio CZ-101 - 1000 among others) Even
if there is no front panel button Local Off can access 'Local Off'
mode. This only allows notes to be triggered from MIDI and not the
actual keyboard - (though notes are still output) great for using
sequencing software! (FreeWare)
Hex-sessary -- Converts Octal, Hexadecimal, Decimal and Binary
numbers. Converted tables can be printed out. Can be run as an
accessory or program! (FreeWare)
Ms. Print -- Print many documents at once. Select a file-mask and
directory and off you go! (ShareWare)
10 bucks to the above address (Wayne Steinert) gets a disk with
all these and whatever else comes out, and register Ms. Print. (More
all the time) Please specify DS/SS .
See Ya!
Thanks, See Ya!
