  18. Hi everyone!
  19.         Well atlast the new library has started, but before I talk about
  20. that, let me first talk about the Disk Of the Month.
  21.  
  22.         As most of you know the Disk Of the Month (DOM) is a disk full of
  23. new PD programs which can be bought for $3.00 at meetings, $4.00 through the
  24. library and (best opf all) $30.00 subscription for 12 issues posted to you
  25. (this is a great chance for country and interstate members to get in on the
  26. action).
  27.  
  28.         Over the last few DOM's I've been experimenting to "fine tune" the
  29. DOM. At the February general meeting I with the members ways in which the
  30. DOM could be improved. With the help of their feedback I've worked out the
  31. final form in which all future DOM's will take.
  32.  
  33.             * The pricing stays as is:-
  34.                     $3.00 - at meetings
  35.                     $4.00 - through the library
  36.                    $30.00 - subscription for 12 issues.
  37.  
  38.             * Disks will now be formatted as 79 track, 10 sector double
  39.               sided disks for members who have dicky disk drives.
  40.  
  41.             * The files will continue being archived using the LZH method
  42.               (allowing 1.4 MegaBytes of stuff per disk). The program UNLZH
  43.               v1.72 will be included to extract them.
  44.  
  45.               Unfortunately it became apparent that a number of members
  46.               didn't know how to correctly use unLZH and solve this,
  47.               detailed instructions on how to extract files. Also, at the
  48.               next general meeting (Sat. 7th March) I'll be showing people
  49.               how to use UNLZH correctly, so if you have any problems, come
  50.               to the meeting and I'll explain it to you.

  52. As a taste of what's to come, allow me to have just a little rave....
  53.  
  54. The standard Atari file selector is rubbish, we all know it, yet we live
  55. with it. However, numerous alternative file selectors have come and gone but
  56. two outstanding selectors are the Little Green Selector (PD - see catalogue)
  57. and the Universal Item Selector III (which is commercial). For the last year
  58. or so I've been using UIS III exclusively. However that's all changed with
  59. the arrival (via the Holland <-> ACE BBS link) of "Selectric" by Stefan
  60. Rodermacher and Oliver Scheel. I firmly believe that this is the best
  61. selector on the Atari bare none!
  62.  
  63. It has all the features of UIS (file/disk handling, wildcards, FIND
  64. functions, sorting (including numeric which not even UIS has), filters etc
  65. etc) plus the ability to jump up and down a folder tree instaneously and its
  66. all accessed from the cleanest looking interface around. The only selector
  67. that bears any similarity is "Boomerang" on the Macintosh. I've included a
  68. picture that came with the program so you can get an idea on what it looks
  69. like.

  71. Because of a special Shareware arrangement, Selectric will not appear in the
  72. library for some time. However, Selectric will appear on the next DOM - so
  73. get it or miss out on a commercial quality program, in addition to 1.3
  74. Megabytes of stuff for $3.00 !

  80. Yes it's happened! The catalogue below shows whats been released so far, the
  81. disks are available right now.

  83. Please comment on the format of the catalogue, if you like it buy some of
  84. the disks, if you don't then please say so....

  86. Upcoming disks will be the start of the Disk Utilities, Spectre/Mac,
  87. Graphics, Applications and Magazine sections. Also I'll will configure and
  88. release TeX and GhostScript (as soon as I get them working!).

  97.         The disks fall into certion Areas which form as section headings in
  98. this catalogue. The actual disk name is centred, and this is what you quote
  99. to order the disk.

  101.         All programs are assummed to work on a normal ST unless mentioned in
  102. square brackets after the files' description. The key is:

  104.                 1Mb - A minimun of a 1 Megabyte needed
  105.                 STe - STe only. } If preceeded by a "*" then these files
