  1. Technical Information for Logical Journey of the Zoombinis(TM)

  7. Performance and Technical Tips
  8.  
  9. 1. If you experience any problems launching, tasking out
  10. or quitting Logical Journey of the Zoombinis please do
  11. the following:
  12.  a. Go into the Windows folder on your hard drive and look for the
  13. QTW.INI file.
  14.  b. Open the QTW.INI file and make sure that
  15. the line Optimize=Driver is placed under [Video]. It should appear as:
  16. [Video]
  17. Optimize=Driver 
  18.  
  19. In our testing, we've found that many systems using video boards 
  20. with an S3 chip may experience difficulties
  21. launching Logical Journey of the Zoombinis. Following the above instructions
  22. should help the program run more smoothly.
  23.  
  24. 2. Your screen saver may interfere with Logical Journey
  25. of the Zoombinis. Please make sure that your screen saver
  26. is turned off before you start the program.
  27.  
  28. 3. Left-handed users - you will be able to use either the
  29. right or left mouse button to play the program. However,
  30. both mouse buttons may not function properly if your 
  31. Windows mouse settings are set
  32. to left hand settings. Before starting, make sure your 
  33. mouse button is set to the Windows default of right hand settings.
  34.  
  35. 4. If you are in Practice Mode and quit the program,
  36. you will not be prompted to save your game. Make sure
  37. to save your game before going into Practice Mode. Please
  38. see the User's Manual for Logical Journey of 
  39. the Zoombinis for more details.
  40.  
  41. 6. After installing in Windows 3.1, Logical Journey of the Zoombinis
  42. will run WinG. WinG is a program that analyzes and 
  43. adjusts your computer system to optimize graphics 
  44. performance and will take approximately two minutes to run. 
  45. WinG will only run the first time you install Logical Journey of
  46. the Zoombinis in Windows 3.1, or if you adjust your video settings.
  47.  
  48. 7. If you encounter problems with sound or graphics
  49. quality while playing, please check to see that you 
  50. have the latest device drivers. Our testing has shown
  51. that Logical Journey of the Zoombinis may display
  52. certain graphic anomalies with the Diamond Stealth VRAM and
  53. Tseng ET4000 video boards. The User's Manual for Logical Journey of the Zoombinis
  54. has a listing of companies and their phone numbers
  55. in the "If You Can't Get Started" section. 
  56. By contacting these companies, you should be able to
  57. obtain the most recent video, sound, and CD-ROM drivers
  58. for your peripheral hardware.
  59.  
  60. 8. If you have a Packard Bell machine and you receive the error "Cannot Open
  61. File Handler" while in Windows 3.1, the problem is occuring
  62. because some of the QuickTime files are hidden and the 2.0.3 QuickTime for Windows installer 
  63. can't replace them. Please make the following change:
  64.  
  65. From a DOS prompt type:
  66. cd\Windows <enter>
  67. ATTRIB -H *.* <enter>
  68. cd\Windows\System <enter>
  69. ATTRIB -H *.* <enter>
  70.  
  71. This will remove the "Hidden" attribute from all the files. 
  72. After doing the ATTRIB command, return to Windows and 
  73. run the QuickTime install of Logical Journey of the Zoombinis.
