  2. The gene  of interest  is cloned  into a  retroviral vector  (see Fig.
  3. 60-2); and then is transfected into a helper cell line, which provides
  4. the  retroviral structural genes  in trans. The  retroviral structural
  5. genes  cannot be packaged due  to the absence  of a packaging sequence
  6. (psi),  while the retroviral vector can be packaged, thereby producing
