TABLE 64-3. Antiangiogenic Therapy (Lewis Lung Carcinoma)*
*A comparison of the anti-tumor activity of angiogenesis inhibitors
from our laboratory tested against the same strain of Lewis lung
carcinoma. Therapy was usually initiated when the tumor had reached
150 to 250 mm**3, or about 1% of body weight. Endostatin is an 18-kd
internal fragment of collagen 18 (O'Reilly and coworkers unpublished
data). This table illustrates the increasing antitumor activity of
angiogenesis inhibitors discovered between 1980 and 1996. Both
angiostatin and endostatin are the only "specific" endothelial
inhibitors. Human angiostatin is cleared more rapidly from the
circulation of mice (hours) than mouse angiostatin (days). This is the
reason for the apparent decreased potency of human angiostatin in
comparison with mouse angiostatin.
