TROUBLESHOOTING AND OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS
Chem3D plug-in:
In case browser's plug-in don't work you can try the following.
1. Run installer once again.
2.a. If installer detects that something is missing and suggests to install
necessary components - follow this suggestion
2.b Installer may suggest to uninstall everything. Do this and run
installer once again then.
During installation follow default settings and do not try to customize the
set of components being installed.
if these steps above did not help, then try the following.
1. Uninstall Chem 3 D studio Net using "Add/Remove Programs" control panel.
2. Manually clean up the location where it was installed.
3. Re-install product using default settings.
Manual clean-up means that after you uninstall, go to location C:\Program Files\ChemOffice2002 (default location) or wherever it was installed and delete everything in this folder.

TCP-IP protocol:
TCP/IP is the underlying communication protocol for the Internet. Your Organic View CD uses this protocol and cannot function properly on a system without TCP/IP support. Organic View Setup checks for the presence of TCP/IP and displays a warning message if it is not present.
If you have an Internet Service provider to allow you to send email and browse the Internet, then TCP/IP should be set up already.
NOTE: TCP-IP protocol installation requires the Windows set-up CD-ROM.

If you use a proxy server for Internet connections, the local host address for Organic View ("127.0.0.1") has to be added to the proxy bypass list of your browser (see menu "Tools/Internet Options.../Connections(Tab)/LAN Settings/Advanced.../Exceptions: Do not use proxy server for addresses
beginning with:" "127.0.0.1"). This makes your local host communication faster and more reliable and does not affect your browser security in any way. If you use Internet Explorer, this proxy bypass will be added automatically after the program is started.
If you use Netscape Navigator, you need to adjust settings manually as follows:
1. Select Edit > Preferences...
2. Expand Advanced > Proxy from the Category list, and then click the View button to see the manual proxy configuration;
3. Type "127.0.0.1" into the Exceptions field of the Manual Proxy Configuration dialog box.
a) Working offline. You will not be able to browse your course content correctly if you switch your browser to the Offline mode. Make sure you have unchecked the "File / Work Offline" menu item.
b) You may receive browser error messages while browsing your course if your Internet Explorer settings differ from their default values. In most cases setting "Medium" security level for the Internet Web content zone will be enough for proper Edugen operation. This is a default browser setting so Edugen will work unless someone has changed it.
c) The following Explorer settings block the technologies that are generally used now. Their default values are acceptable. Nevertheless if changed they can distort some Course pages as well as any other pages coming from the web. Make sure they are set to their default values:
- Tools/Internet Options/General (Tab)/Accessibility.../"Ignore colors specified on web pages" checkbox - unchecked
- Tools/Internet Options/General (Tab)/Accessibility.../"Ignore font styles specified on web pages" checkbox - unchecked
- Tools/Internet Options/General (Tab)/Accessibility.../"Ignore font sizes specified on web pages" checkbox - unchecked
- Tools/Internet Options/General (Tab)/Accessibility.../ "Format documents using my style sheet" checkbox - unchecked
d) Corporate security issues. You might be unable to change your browser security settings if your browser is deployed in a network environment that implies advanced corporate security regulation. If so, consult your system administrator and try the following:
1. Add your local host address (127.0.0.1) to the "Trusted sites" Web content zone of your browser or find a Web content zone where this address is located:
1.1. Choose the "Security" tab from the menu "Tools/Internet Options".
1.2. Select "Trusted sites" Web content zone.
1.3. Press "Sites...".
1.4. Check the "Web sites" list for "127.0.0.1" address availability and if it is not there, type it in the "Add this Web site to the zone" field and press the "Add" button.
1.5. If the address you have just typed is already assigned to some other Internet zone, then you will be prompted by the following alert message:
"The site you specified already exists in another zone. Please remove the site from that zone before adding it to the current zone"
This means that either "Local Intranet" or "Restricted Sites" Web content zone already has "127.0.0.1" address assigned. If so, then press "OK" to close the "Trusted sites" window and ascertain the "127.0.0.1" address location before you proceed to the next step:
- check "Local Intranet" Web content zone, press "Sites..." button, then "Advanced..." button in the opened window and verify the "Local Intranet" Web address list. Press "OK" to close the "Local Intranet" window and then "OK" one more time to close another "Local Intranet" window;
- check the "Restricted sites" Web content zone, then press "Sites..." button and verify the "Restricted sites" Web address list. Press "OK" to close the "Restricted sites" window.
2. Tune-up your browser security settings for the content zone that includes "127.0.0.1" (or the zone you have revealed to carry "127.0.0.1" address):
2.1. Select the Web content zone that carries "127.0.0.1" address.
2.2. Press "Custom level..." button. This will invoke the "Security settings" window.
2.3. Make sure permissions are granted to the following actions:
- "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" - Enable (allow running browser plug-ins such as Flash, QuickTime etc.);
- "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting" - Enable (required for JavaScript and Java applets interaction);
- "Java permissions" - one of the following: "High safety" OR "Medium safety" OR "Low safety";
- "Scripting of Java applets" - Enable (required for the JavaScript and Java applets interaction).
2.4. Press "OK" to close the "Security Settings" window.
3. Press "OK" to close the "Internet Options" window.
e) If your browser displays the alert message: "Sorry, Content Advisor will not allow you to see this site" while running Organic View, please consult your system administrator for the Content Advisor permissions tune-up.
a) Working offline. You will not be able to browse your course content correctly if you set your browser to the Offline mode. Switch online by selecting the
"File / Offline /Work Online" menu item.
b) If you are unable to run Organic View with your Netscape browser then check the following essential browser settings. The default values of these parameters are acceptable. Nevertheless if changed they can block proper Organic View operation.
1. Select menu " Edit/Preferences..." item, then open "Advanced" category
2. Make sure following option values are set to their defaults:
- "Automatically load images" - checked.
- "Enable Java" - checked;
- "Enable JavaScript" - checked;
- "Enable style sheets" - checked;
3. Press "OK" to close "Preferences" window.
c) Following Netscape settings can block the technologies that are generally used now. Their default values are acceptable. Nevertheless, if changed they can distort some Course pages as well as any other pages coming from the Web. Make sure they are set to their default values:
1. Change to the "Appearance/Fonts" category and make sure that the "Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts" option is unchecked;
2. Change to the "Appearance/Colors" category and make sure that the "Always use my colors, overriding document" option is unchecked;
3. Press "OK" to close the "Preferences" window.
d) If your browser displays "NetWatch Protection Alert" messages while running your Organic View program, please consult your system administrator for the NetWatch permissions tune-up.
If all or some of Netscape Navigator V4.7X and Internet Explore V5.0 or higher versions are installed on your system it is possible to switch the program to use the one of your choice. To do this:
1. The Organic View program will need to be running. Restore the Edugen server, which will be minimized on your task bar (usually at the bottom of the screen). To do this, right click on the Edugen item and choose "Select".
2. Choose your preferred browser and click OK.
3. Shut down Organic View and restart to select the new browser.
4. So that your new browser displays the program correctly it may be necessary to install the following components again: MS Java machine and Shockwave Player. These programs can be found on the root of your CD if required.
