  3. BOOKMANAGER ONLINE BOOKS DEMONSTRATION

  5. This CD-ROM contains a multimedia demonstration called Online
  6. Electronic Books: A New Alternative.  This demonstration introduces
  7. you to:
  8.  
  9. o   Online books on CD-ROM
  10.  
  11. o   The IBM Online Library
  12.  
  13. o   The BookManager READ products for workstation
  14.  
  15. o   Creating your own online books
  16.  
  17. The introduction to the BookManager READ products offers you a
  18. particularly helpful tutorial that shows you how to use the
  19. BookManager READ/2 and READ/6000 products.
  20.

  22. WHAT KIND OF WORKSTATION DO YOU NEED TO RUN THIS DEMONSTRATION?
  23.  
  24. This demonstration is designed to work with the following software and
  25. hardware.  If your workstation meets these requirements, you can go to
  26. "How to Start The Demonstration" and prepare to run the demonstration.
  27.  
  28. REQUIRED SOFTWARE FOR OS/2
  29.  
  30. o   IBM Operating System/2* (OS/2) Standard Edition (SE), Version 1.3
  31.     or higher, or
  32.     IBM Operating System/2 (OS/2) Extended Edition (EE), Version 1.3
  33.     or higher
  34. o   IBM DOS Release 3.3 or higher
  35.  
  36. REQUIRED SOFTWARE FOR DOS
  37.  
  38. o   IBM DOS Release 3.3 or higher
  39.  
  40. REQUIRED HARDWARE
  41.  
  42. o   Any 386 or 486 workstation that runs the required software
  43. o   A Video Graphics Adapter (VGA) or equivalent
  44. o   A minimum of 512KB of memory (in addition to the memory required
  45.     by the edition of OS/2 or DOS you are using)
  46. o   A CD-ROM drive and the equipment needed to attach it to your
  47.     workstation
  48. o   A mouse

  51. HOW TO START THE DEMONSTRATION
  52.  
  53. To run this demonstration, do the following:
  54.  
  55. 1.  Remove the CD-ROM from its protective case.
  56.  
  57. 2.  Insert the CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.
  58.  
  59.     If you are not sure how to use your CD-ROM drive, refer to its
  60.     instruction manual to learn how to insert CD-ROMs correctly.
  61.  
  62. 3.  Go to a command prompt.
  63.  
  64.     FOR OS/2:
  65.  
  66.     Go to the DOS command prompt in a DOS full-screen session.
  67.  
  68.     FOR DOS:
  69.  
  70.     Go to the DOS command prompt.
  71.  
  72. 4.  Switch to the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive that now contains
  73.     the CD-ROM.  For example, if this CD-ROM drive is "D", type:

  75.       d:
  76.  
  77.     If you have more than one CD-ROM drive, you can use any one of
  78.     them.
  79.  
  80. 5.  Change to the directory on the CD-ROM that contains the
  81.     demonstration.  Type:
  82.  
  83.       cd \bkmdemo
  84.  
  85. 6.  To start the demonstration, type the following:.
  86.  
  87.     FOR 386 WORKSTATIONS:
  88.  
  89.       start386
  90.  
  91.     FOR 486 WORKSTATIONS:
  92.  
  93.       start486
  94.  
  95.     The IBM logo appears on your screen.  The logo will disappear.
  96.     Several introductory screens will appear.  Wait for instructions.
  97.     When they appear on your screen, follow the instructions to
  98.     continue with the demonstration.
