  36.                                 Background
  37.  
  38.      The Pick-6 LOTTO Random Number Generator was developed to
  39. provide TRULY random picks for various state lotteries.  It is a
  40. well known fact that most states do not provide TRULY random
  41. picks with their EasyPick or QuickPick options.  Routinely the
  42. computer system will limit numbers for selection if a large
  43. number of players have chosen a given number.  This software uses
  44. a highly optimized re-seeding random number generator that
  45. ensures the numbers you are presented with will be random in
  46. nature.  It has been responsible for a number of LOTTO winning
  47. tickets at various stages of payoff.  (Most states pay for
  48. tickets that have from 3 to 6 correct numbers in a pick.)

  50.      There are several LOTTO Pick programs available in the
  51. Public Domain, or Commercially that offer you numerical analysis,
  52. repeating numbers and other schemes.  The BOTTOM LINE is that
  53. your best chance at winning in any LOTTO is to have a series of
  54. random numbers.  No person or software can truly predict how a
  55. random drawing of LOTTO numbers will occur.  That is why this
  56. software really performs.  It is a no frills, down-to-business
  57. RANDOM number generator.  It ensures that the sequence of numbers
  58. for a given pick are always different.  It does not however,
  59. limit numbers from appearing again in other picks.  It abides by
  60. the RANDOM number generation motif.  You can rest assured that
  61. the software (written in C++) is finding you a good set of random
  62. numbers for your picks.

  64.                          Installation Instructions
  65.  
  66. DOS - The DOSLOTTO.EXE program can be run from the DOS command
  67. line or assigned to any menu program you desire.  To run the DOS
  68. version of the software from the command line enter:
  69.  
  70.                     DOSLOTTO <then press the enter key>
  71.  
  72. WINDOWS - The WINLOTTO.EXE program can be added to any program
  73. group within Microsoft Windows, or Windows NT by using the File
  74. Menu and selecting New, and then Program Item.  Refer to the
  75. Windows Manual to learn how to assign a program to a program
  76. group.  WINLOTTO has it's own Icon when installed.  You may also
  77. run the software by selecting File, and then Run.

  79. OS/2 - The OS2LOTTO.EXE program can be added to any folder group
  80. by dragging a Program Template from the Templates folder and
  81. following the instructions for adding programs in your user
  82. manual.  The program may be run as an OS/2 Full Screen or OS/2
  83. Windowed application.  It may also be run from the OS/2 command
  84. line within a Full Screen OS/2 Session or a Windowed OS/2 Session
  85. available in the Command Prompts folder.  OS2LOTTO has it's own
  86. Icon when installed.

  89.                           Operating Instructions
  90.  
  91.      A simple character based user interface has been implemented
  92. to reduce the size of the various platform software programs. 
  93. All interaction with the software is conducted with your
  94. keyboard.  There are only a few steps to using the Pick-6 LOTTO
  95. Random Number Generator.  They are:
  96.  
  97.      Step 1 - After the program loads you are asked to enter the
  98.      "Upper Number of your LOTTO > ".  This means you must enter
  99.      the highest number that you may select on your lotto pick
  100.      card.  This varies from state to state.  In some states it
  101.      is 44, and in some others it may be higher or lower.  Once
  102.      you have entered this required number, the software
  103.      calibrates itself to ensure that all numbers generated will
  104.      be between 1 and the number that you enter.

  106.      Step 2 - You are prompted to read and accept the terms of
  107.      usage for the software.  Once you accept by pressing the
  108.      <Enter> key, the LOTTO picks window appears.  It is here
  109.      that your numbers will be generated for you.

  111.      Step 3 - From the Picks window there are 3 keys that you can
  112.      press to interact with the software.  They are:
  113.  
  114.           'N' - Pressing the N key will clear the current pick
  115.           (if you don't like it) and present you with another
  116.           pick on the same line.  You can cycle individual picks
  117.           as many times as you want with the N key.
  118.  
  119.           'Q' - Pressing the Q key immediately exits from the
  120.           software program.  Press this key when you want to
  121.           quit.

  123.           'Enter' - By pressing the <Enter> key, you indicate
  124.           acceptance of the pick on the current line, and proceed
  125.           to the next pick.  Up to 20 picks per screen will be
  126.           displayed.  Once 20 picks have been selected, you are
  127.           told that all picks for the screen are complete.  You
  128.           must then press <Enter> once again to clear the screen
  129.           and pick more if so desired.

  131.      ** Note:  Picks are not saved to disk, or printed out so you
  132.      must enter them on your LOTTO card while they are still on
  133.      the screen.  Once you exit the program, all picks are
  134.      cleared.  You may however use the Print Screen function
  135.      (supported by your operating system) if you desire to have a
  136.      printed copy of your LOTTO picks. **
