  4. Instructions for viewing in OS/2:
  5.  
  6. Quick & easy way:
  7. ----------------
  8. First, copy the *.inf file to an appropriate space on your hard drive.
  9. Then, open an OS/2 Window by clicking on the "OS/2 System" folder
  10. icon, then clicking on "Command Prompts", then an OS/2 Window.
  11.  
  12. At the OS/2 prompt, type "view c:\subdir\sdin9312" without the
  13. quotation marks and where "subdir" is the subdirectory you may have
  14. made to store the file.  IF you just copied it to your root directory,
  15. then omit the subdirectory.

  17. More or less permanent / desktop icon way:
  18. ------------------------------------------
  19. To set up as an icon in the OS/2 "Information" folder:
  20. Open up the "Information" folder.  Then do the following steps:
  21.  
  22. Use your right mouse button and click on the REXX Information folder
  23. (or any of the other "book" like icons you see.  Then click on "create
  24. another" then select "program".
  25.  
  26. A screen comes up where you can designate where it will be placed.
  27. For now, use the default into the information folder and press enter.

  29. A settings folder comes up.  In the first field, type "view.exe" - I
  30. didn't need the path when I tested it.  In the parameters field, type
  31. "c:\subdir\sdin9312.inf" -- the path where you have stored the INF
  32. file.

  34. You may notice that the little icon up in the left hand corner has
  35. changed to a "book".
  36.  
  37. Select the "general" tab.  Type in the name you want the "program" to
  38. be called.  Try SDOS2UG December.  Then close the settings
  39. folder by clicking on the upper left hand little icon twice.

  41. You now have an icon to view the newsletter.  Just double-click on it
  42. and view it.  There's two ways to do it.  I spent most of my time the
  43. first time setting it up so that it would work better if you double
  44. clicked on "December Topics".  It should look "cleaner" this way.
  45. You could also click on the little "+" sign, too, but I learned the
  46. hard way how different that is when you're doing the code.  I hope to
  47. have dinner someday with the person who wrote the IPFC compiler stuff,
  48. but of course that person will just watch me eat.... :).

  65. I've gotten numerous requests or inquiries as to how I do the INF 
  66. newsletter.  Flattery will get you everywhere.  In the July
  67. newsletter, I started to walk you through the various aspects I go
  68. through to create what you see.  It's not all techy code talk either 
  69. -- you might find it useful to learn to not only newsletters, but 
  70. office manuals, presentations or even that annaul holiday newsletter.

  72. The biggest change in this edition of the INF is the expanded, and I
  73. do mean EXPANDED OS/2 User Group / SIG directory.  I'll let you check
  74. it out yourself and see if you don't agree.  And if you don't see your
  75. favorite OS/2 group listed, well, time to fire up the modem or even
  76. write us and let us know about you.

  78. I've also tried something different in the opening "menu" that you
  79. see after you double click on "December Topics".  After all, it's 
  80. a GUI world and we may as well join it. <G>  Hope you enjoy this
  81. different approach.

  85. Thanks for all your patience out there, folks.  Excuse me now - it's
  86. been rather hectic cranking these out lately.  But just to let you
  87. know - I just received the latest version of a new tool to create
  88. these little files.  I'll let you know if I've found the "easy Karma"
  89. path to creating INF files.  But hark, I hear the ole teamaker  
  90. brewing up a pitcher of mango iced tea......ah......
