  1. VVcode is a new binary/ascii conversion system.  It takes the
  2. best features of such programs as UUencode, XXencode, BinHex,
  3. Stuffit, Macbinary, BOO, Telcode, MFTU, Netdata, and unifies and
  4. extends them in a single pair of programs: VVencode and VVdecode.

  6. VVcode is specifically designed to deal elegantly and
  7. intelligently with OS-specific file structures (such as
  8. data/resource forks on the Mac, record-oriented file systems like
  9. VMS) when transferring between OS platforms.

  11. VVcode also incorporates CRC data-integrity checks, character-set
  12. conversion (ASCII/EBCDIC), automatic file splitting and
  13. recombining, mail-header stripping, etc. (see vvintro).

  15. VVdecode can also decode UUencoded and XXencoded files.

  17. The source-code for these programs is freely available.
