ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. PMFormat Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
See ABOUT PMFormat and REGISTER
PMFormat provides a Presentation Manager Interface for the Format utility
provided with OS/2. OS/2's regular Format utility is used so disks formatted
under PMFormat are completely standard. The setup dialog allows you to state
the drive to format, density of the disk, and a volume label.
Note: Use the Def density button if the disk is the same density as the
default for the drive or leave the setting blank.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.1. Drive Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The floppy drives defined to your computer are listed here. Use the mouse or
cursor to highlight the drive letter to be formatted. PMFormat does not list
the Hard Drives.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2. Disk Size Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The buttons located within this group are used to set the disk size for format.
If the disk is to be formatted at the same density as the drives standard
setting do not set a button or choose Def. Choose a button by clicking the
Left Mouse button when the mouse cursor is on the desired button or by using
the TAB and Cursor keys to move to the desired button and press the Space bar.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.1. 360 k ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Choose this for Low density 5 1/4 inch disks. Only choose this if the drive and
diskette sizes are different.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.2. 720 k ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Choose this for Low density 3 1/2 inch drives. Only choose this if the drive
and diskette sizes are different.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.3. 1.2 m ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Choose this for 1.2 Meg High density 5 1/4 inch disks. Only choose this if the
drive and diskette sizes are different.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.4. 1.4 m ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This button sets format for High density 1.4 meg 3 1/2 inch drives. Only choose
this if the drive and diskette sizes are different.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.5. 2.8 m ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The setting for the new IBM 2.8 meg 3 1/2 inch disks. Only choose this if the
drive and diskette sizes are different.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.2.6. Def ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this to choose the default setting for the selected disk drive. Format
will not work if the specified size is the same as the drives default setting.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.3. Label Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enter a volume label for the disk in this entry field. If blank no volume label
will be provided for the disk. The label may be up to 11 characters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.4. Begin ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Press this button to start formating the selected disk.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.5. Exit ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Press this button to exit PMFormat. Press this button by clicking with the
Mouse or using the TAB key to move to the button and pressing ENTER.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3.6. Dir Help ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this to list any files on the disk about to be formated. Dir allows you
to check the disk before beginning the format and be sure you won't format the
wrong disk.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. File Listing ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This Dialog lists the directories and files found on the target disk. Each
directory starts with <DIR>. Place the mouse pointer on a directory and double
click or move to the selection with the cursor and press ENTER to list the
files in that directory. Choose OK to exit this screen.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4.1. Files List Box ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
The list box displays all directories and files on the target disk. You can
move down through the subdirectories by selecting a subdirectory with the mouse
or cursor. The files for the selected directory will then be selected. To move
back to the previous directory select the .. directory.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Format Complete ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This dialog provides you with the information given by Format when it is done.
The volume label, Serial number, Total disk size, and Available bytes are
listed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.1. Label ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the volume label entered by you. It will be blank if you did not enter
a volume label.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.2. Serial ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the disk's serial number. The serial number is created by the operating
system and is unique for all disks created on the same machine.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.3. Total Bytes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the total number of bytes of data space on the disk.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5.4. Available Bytes ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
This is the number of bytes of data space currently free on the disk. This
should match the Total Bytes on a newly formatted diskette.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Time Out ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Format has not output any messages for the maximum allowed time. Some versions
of Format will not time out properly if a disk is formatted at a density
greater than it is designed for. If you know the selected density is correct
you may need to increase the timeout value. The time out factor is 50 by
default. Enter a larger value on the command line when starting PMFORMAT or
place a larger value in the Parameter field of the program setup to increase
the default value.
