READ.ME for Greed v1.00 for OS/2 2.x
This archive contains an OS/2 PM implementation of the UNIX classic Greed.
Greed is a board game a la Mine Sweeper; though, in Mine Sweeper your goal
is to uncover some numbered tiles - in Greed your goal is to cover some
numbered tiles; in Mine Sweeper you have to be fast - in Greed you have
to THINK.
The original UNIX implementation of this game is text mode. This
implementation exploits OS/2 Presentation Manager to give the game a more
appealing look and feel, as well as to provide some extra functionality.
I don't have access to the source code for the UNIX version, so this is
propably not the most accurate implementation - though its the prettiest
i've seen.
To run the game you need OS/2 v2.x with Presentation Manager. The game has
been tested with the December beta and the March beta, but I haven't tried
it on 2.1GA (the CD version of 2.1GA hasn't arrived in Denmark yet).
If you have any problems running it on 2.1GA, please let me know, and
I'll try to fix it.
The distribution of the game should include the following files:
GREED.EXE The executable
GREED.HLP Online help
READ.ME This file
If any of these files are missing, please get a proper copy and don't
make any distribution of the archive with the missing files.
To install the game, copy GREED.EXE and GREED.HLP to a catalog of your choice
and create a program object to refer to GREED.EXE (drag a copy off the PROGRAM
object in the TEMPLATES folder and fill in the 'Path and file name' with the
path of GREED.EXE). The two files don't have to be in the same directory,
but GREED.HLP should either be in the 'Working directory' listed in the program
object or in a directory in your HELP path (HELP=.... in config.sys). Greed
creates a file called GREED.INI in the working directory. This file is used
for saving high scores and game settings. If you delete this file, Greed will
make a new one for you, but all your high scores and game settings will be
lost. You should take care always to run Greed with the same working directory,
or you'll end up with multiple copies of this file.
Once installed, just double click on the Greed icon to start the game. To get
help, you can press F1 at (almost) any time, or you can select help from
the help menu. Select 'Extended help' from the 'Help' menu to learn how to
play Greed.
Direct all comments/suggestions/bug reports/donations etc. etc. to the address
below. All kind of comments are very welcome.
