  4. Progref is a PM utility to quickly and easily generate Program reference 
  5. objects from executables (ie typically exe, com, cmd and bat type files). 
  6. Progref uses one dialog panel for most of the commonly used program reference 
  7. options.  Aids are used to simplify field entries such as setting the default 
  8. directory path, and the capitalization of the program reference object name. 
  9. File dialogs are available to simplify the selection of program executables and 
  10. icons. The  program reference objects will be place on the desktop, where they 
  11. can be dropped into the folders of your choice.

  23. Progref can be started by 
  24.  
  25. o Executing Progref from the command line with or without the fully qualified 
  26.   name of the program for which  you wish to build the reference object. The 
  27.   program program accepts as input the fully  defined program name (ie the path 
  28.   is included) separated by blanks. For example "progref d:\abcd\test.exe".  If 
  29.   no argument is supplied a file dialog provides for the selection of the input 
  30.   file.

  32. o Selecting executables from the drives object and dropping them on a program 
  33.   reference of progref.

  35. o Double clicking on a shadow or program reference object of progref

  40. The menu options for file dialogs and defaults are described in the following 
  41. section.

  43. o File Dialogs 
  44.  
  45.    Program           This option will present a standard file dialog to assist 
  46.                      in selecting the executable for which you wish to build a 
  47.                      program reference. 
  48.  
  49.    Path              This option presents a standard file dialog to assist in 
  50.                      selection the path for the working directory.  Since a 
  51.                      standard file dialog is used a file has to selected before 
  52.                      the dialog will return.  Only the path information is used 
  53.                      so it can be any file in the directory.  If the directory 
  54.                      chosen is an empty directory, simply put a dummy file name 
  55.                      in the open file name field.

  57.    Icon Dialog       This options will present a standard file dialog to assist 
  58.                      in selecting icons that you want to associate with the 
  59.                      executable. 
  60.  
  61.                      Please Note  You do not need to use this option if the 
  62.                      executible already has an icon associated with it. You can 
  63.                      however use it to override an icon already associated with 
  64.                      a file with the icon of your choice.

  66. o Defaults 
  67.  
  68.   Establishes the defaults for Progref. There are three submenu options that 
  69.   you can select. 
  70.  
  71.    Save Present      Saves Progref's settings as they exist when this option is 
  72.                      selected.  This option can be used even if it is already 
  73.                      selected (checked). 
  74.  
  75.    Save Last         The options selected are not saved immediatly. Instead, 
  76.                      they are saved the next time the Create button is pushed. 
  77.                      This means that each time progref is invoked, it will have 
  78.                      the options that were last used. 
  79.  
  80.    Remove Defaults   Removes either of the above two settings.  Progref will 
  81.                      take original defaults when it's next executed.

  83.                      Please Note:  The remove defaults option also provides a 
  84.                                    means of removing  all Progref data from the 
  85.                                    OS/2.ini file.

  90. Title                    Sets the object's title. 
  91.  
  92. Associate Filters        Sets the filename filter for files associated to this 
  93.                          program. Multiple filters are separated by commas.

  95. Associate Types          Sets the type of files associated to this program. 
  96.                          Multiple filters should be separated by commas. 
  97.  
  98. Program Parameters       Sets the parameters list, which may include 
  99.                          substitution characters.

  101. Working Directory        Sets the working directory.  The associated check 
  102.                          button will set the working directory to the same 
  103.                          directory the executable resides in.

  112.    HIDE                     Views of this object will hide when their minimize 
  113.                             button is selected.

  115.    VIEWER                   Views of this object will minimize to the minimized 
  116.                             window viewer when their minimize button is 
  117.                             selected.

  119.    DESKTOP                  Views of this object will minimize to the Desktop 
  120.                             when their minimize button is selected.

  124.    PM                       Sets the session type to PM. 
  125.  
  126.    OS/2 Windowed            Sets the session type to OS/2 windowed.

  128.    OS/2 Full Screen         Sets the session type to OS/2 full screen

  130.    Dos Windowed             Sets the session type to DOS windowed.

  132.    Dos Full Screen          Sets the session type to DOS full screen.

  134.    Win Window               Sets the session type to WIN-OS2 window.

  141. o Program Title Push Buttons 
  142.  
  143.    First     This options capitalizes the first character of the title name. 
  144.              The subsequent letters are lowercase. 
  145.  
  146.    CAPS      All characters in the title name are capitalized. 
  147.  
  148.    Lower     All characters in the title name are made lower case.

  154.  
  155.    Window Open Term?        When Checked  the window is left open upon program 
  156.                             termination. When unchecked the window is closed 
  157.                             upon program termination.

  159.    Start Minimized?         When checked the program is started minimized. 
  160.  
  161.    New View On Open?        When checked a new view of the object will be 
  162.                             created whenever open is selected.  When unchecked, 
  163.                             if open is selected, previously started views will 
  164.                             be resurfaced.

  166. o Working Directory

  168.   The check button under the working directory input field will set the working 
  169.   directory field to the directory the executable is in.

  174. Create    Pushing create will create the program reference object with the 
  175.           settings that have been selected in the dialog. 
  176.  
  177. Repeat    The repeat button will produce a program reference object and then 
  178.           restore the dialog box with the same settings.  This is handy if you 
  179.           want to make multiple copies with minor changes.  For example, one 
  180.           might make two copies of a file transfer program with different 
  181.           options so that one is set up for binary transfers and the other is 
  182.           set up for ascii transfers.

  184. Cancel    Program is terminated without creating a program reference object
