  6. PURPOSE:
  7.          GetInfs.EXE is a little program that allows the user to launch
  8.          INF files by simply highlighting a description of the file
  9.          and clicking the VIEW button.
  10.  
  11. WHY?:
  12.          I found that as I added more and more OS/2 programs to my
  13.          collection, I ended up with INF files all over the place.
  14.          Sometimes I'd want to refer to them and it was becoming
  15.          a hassle to search them out to view them. So I wrote this
  16.          program to make my life easier. Once the programs are
  17.          recorded in two TXT files, GetInfs.EXE can easily bring
  18.          them up.

  20. SETTING UP:
  21.          Setting up GetInfs.EXE is fairly straight forward. Create
  22.          a directory and place all the files that came with this
  23.          package into this subdirectory.
  24.  
  25.          Run the program called DSETUP.EXE. This program will create
  26.          two text files...
  27.  
  28.          MYDATA.TXT - Which contains the names/descriptions of the INF
  29.                       files you want to set up.
  30.  
  31.          MYPATH.TXT - Which contains the corresponding paths\*.INF to
  32.                       the files listed in MYDATA.TXT
  33.

  35.          DSETUP.EXE will ask you to provide a desription of the INF
  36.          file. Your description can be up to 31 characters long.
  37.          For example you could enter: OS/2 Command Reference
  38.  
  39.          Click the button "Accept Description" or if you want to
  40.          redo the description click "Cancel Description".
  41.  
  42.          If you "Accept Description" a file dialogue window will open.
  43.          Here you select the actual file name that goes with the
  44.          description.

  46.          The two TXT files are updated through this process. Once you
  47.          have setup the descriptions and locations of your of your INF
  48.          files, you can run GETINFS.EXE to launch the viewing of
  49.          the INFs.

  52. RULES:   Should you want to make changes to the two TXT files at a
  53.          later time - say you want to delete an INF from your list,
  54.          you can use any ASCII text editor. Just make sure you
  55.          follow these rules:
  56.  
  57.          1) Type the information in each file in contiguous order, no
  58.             blank lines
  59.          2) Lines in MYDATA.TXT must start with an "*"
  60.          3) path\filenames of INF files must be enlcosed in double
  61.             quotes, ie.  "  "

  64. DLL File:
  65.          Included in the package is a file called VROBJ.DLL. This is
  66.          a dynamic link library file from the VX-REXX software package
  67.          produced by Watcom. It is the latest DLL and can replace any
  68.          previous ones. If you are going to be using other programs
  69.          produced with VX-REXX you can save space by moving this file
  70.          to your C:\OS2\DLL directory (or some other directory in your
  71.          LIBPATH path). All VX-REXX programs rely on this DLL and
  72.          once loaded in memory the first time, speed up the loading
  73.          of other VX-REXX applications because they address the same
  74.          DLL.

  78.          GETINFS.EXE - the main program.
  79.          DSETUP.EXE  - used to enter INF information
  80.          GETINFS.ICO - icon file for GetInfs.exe
  81.          DSETUP.ICO  - icon file for Dsetup.exe
  82.          CDS.BMP     - displays our logo in GetInfs window
  83.          HINTHELP.TXT- online help for DSETUP.EXE
  84.          VROBJ.DLL   - dynamic link library file for VX*REXX programs
  85.          README.1ST  - the file you are reading now

  88. PRICE:
  89.          GetInfs.EXE is shareware. If you like the program and wish to
  90.          use it, please register it. The cost of the program is $10 US.
  91.          ($12 CDN). When you register it, you'll receive a version
  92.          that does not bring up the "Shareware Notice" window at
  93.          startup. You'll also receive an order form listing the other
  94.          OS/2 programs we are developing.

  96.          $10 isn't much and by registering shareware you intend to use
  97.          you signal to us that our efforts are worth it and you want
  98.          more OS/2 programs like this.

  102.          you include ALL the files outlined above in the archived
  103.          bundle.
