Commodore's TENTATIVE Fall 1992
____ Magazine Advertising Schedule
/ ___) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/ (_ *StarShip* News Network
/ ___)
/ /
(_/ollowing is Commodore's TENTATIVE magazine advertising schedule for the
months of July through December, 1992. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT EVERYTHING
SHOWN HERE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Commodore has at least one new print ad for the Amiga which we understand
will appear in at least some of the publications listed below. It's a full
page, showing a colorful cartoon director-type with a megaphone in the upper
left quarter. A black-background box opposite with white letters reads:
______________________________

With One Amiga You Can
Make Corporate Videos.
Presentations. And a Profit.
______________________________
Copy in the body of the ad (set in two columns) reads:
Before you spend a dime on another piece of dedicated video equipment,
spend a few minutes with an Amiga. The powerful computer that lets you
create high quality video-graphics and video production for a fraction
of what you may be paying now.
With the Amiga, video production isn't just easier, it's more creative.
Produce 2-D and 3-D animations with Deluxe Paint IV or Caligari. Or
use the Amiga as a switcher, a tele-prompter, or a digital effects
system that handles character generation, featuring hundreds of fonts
and dozens of graphics effects.*
Add the IMPACT VISION 24 card for high resolution 16 million color
displays. Or Studio 16 software and the Sunrize AD1012 audio digitizer
for CD quality digital sound.
With Show Maker, you can create riveting productions with synchronized
music, sound effects and scanned images from video or printed material.
And because the Amiga can run several programs simultaneously, you can
produce animation, transfer images over the phone, and edit scripts all
at once.
And every Amiga 2000 and 3000 series computer comes with Commodore
Express Gold Service options.** And convenient leasing terms are
available.
For information and a free video, call 1-800-66-AMIGA. In Canada, call
1-800-661-AMIGA.
A small illustration in the bottom left corner features this copy:
Check out the Video-Ready A2000HDA/100!
Motorola 68030 CPU, 100MB HD, & More. Just $2,699 (MSRP)
Ultra-tiny print along the bottom of the ad reads:

logo are registered trademarks of Commodore Electronics Ltd. Amiga is a
registered trademark of Commodore-Amiga, Inc. Products available on GSA
schedule GS-00K-91-AGS-5069. Deluxe Paint IV is a registered trademark

____ Earn Free Time with the GEnie Buddy Bonus
(_ _) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/ /
_/ /
(____)ntroducing a friend to the wonderful world of GEnie is always a nice
thing to do. Thanks to the new Buddy Bonus program, now there's something in
it for you: $10 in free connect time for every buddy you bring on board!
Besides earning valuable GEnie credit, imagine the fun you can have battling
your buddies in GENIE'S multi-player games or talking to them in LiveWire
Chat Lines. And with GE Mail, swapping letters with your friends will be
fast and easy.
It's simple to get your $10 Buddy Bonuses as long as you follow these simple
guidelines:
1. Tell your friends to set their communications software for 8 data bits,
no parity, 1 stop bit (8N1).
2. Next, their software needs to dial GEnie's sign-up number: 1-800-638-8369
(Canada 1-800-387-8330). Upon connection, they must type HHH immediately.
3. When they see the "U#=" prompt, they should type BUDDY and press <RETURN>.
4. When GEnie asks for their Buddy Bonus Sponsor, they must enter your EXACT
GEnie Mail address -- so be sure to spell it carefully for them.
5. That's it! Once you and your friend have been members in good standing for
three months, a $10 Buddy Bonus will be credited to your GEnie account.
This offer is good for both U.S. and Canadian GEnie users. It cannot be
redeemed for cash, is not transferrable, and will expire if not used by
December 31, 1993.
Win GEnie Merchandise
Here's another great way to profit from your popularity. The people who sign
up the most new members between July 1 and August 31, 1992, will win colorful
GEnie merchandise:
1st Prize: A GEnie satin jacket, t-shirt and coffee mug.
2nd Prize: GEnie satin jacket and coffee mug.
3rd Prize: GEnie T-shirt and coffee mug.
These prizes are in addition to the $10 usage credit you earn for every buddy
you sign up. (Employees and contractors of GEnie and their families are not
eligible for prizes.) For complete rules, type *BUDDY at any GEnie main menu
prompt.
Please note that the Buddy Bonus program applies to NEW GEnie subscribers
only. The friends you sponsor can't have been GEnie subscribers in the past
six months.
Here's the bottom line: The Buddy Bonus program is a terrific way to
introduce your friends to the world of GEnie -- and to give yourself a little
credit in the process.
May the most popular win!

Dan Gutman on GEnie
____ "Power of the Press"
(_ _) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/ /
_/ /
(____)n his July 13th issue of "I Didn't Know You Could Do THAT with a
Computer" series on GEnie, Dan Gutman reviews what looks to be a GREAT new
book for desktop publishers.
He says, "Face it, what do YOU know about layout and design? Owning a
powerful personal computer and a laser printer doesn't make anybody an art
director. KNOWLEDGE does. You have to know what to do with that power of the
press."
Gutman then recommends a new book by Roger C. Parker called "Looking Good In
Print" (Ventana Press, $24) and points to one section in it called Twenty
Five Common Design Pitfalls, saying it details "mistakes that ignorant
beginners like you and I are likely to make because we never took a course in
graphic design." Things like...
Tombstoning
Claustrophobic Pages
Whispering Headlines
Excessive Spacing After Punctuation
Floating Heads
Box-itis and Rule-itis
Irregularly Shaped Blocks of Copy
Underlining
Widows and Orphans
Cramped Logos and Addresses
Too Many Typefaces
Gutman's weekly stories are always informative and often amusing. This is one
you shouldn't miss if you're interested in desktop publishing. To read it,
enter GUTMAN at any numbered GEnie page prompt.

____ New Mouse Yoke Harnesses Amiga
/ ___) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
/ /
/ (__
(_____)olorado Spectrum has unveiled the Mouse Yoke, an innovative device
that transforms a PC, Macintosh or Amiga mouse into a realistic and
affordable aircraft-style yoke. Since it does not require a game port, the
Mouse Yoke is the first realistic flying and driving interface that works
equally well with notebook, laptop, portable and desktop computers or, in
fact, any PC with a mechanical (ball-type) mouse.
Priced less than leading analog joysticks, the Mouse Yoke provides digital
precision, a realistic yoke feel, and hassle-free installation. A user
simply clamps the Mouse Yoke to a table or desk and slips their mouse under
an elastic "seat belt" on top of the device. The yoke's shaft then drives
the mouse ball, translating yoke movements into corresponding mouse signals.
Pushing forward on the yoke is equivalent to moving the mouse forward on the
desk, and "turning right" with the yoke is the same as moving the mouse to
the right.
In addition to its obvious appeal to arm-chair pilots, the Mouse Yoke also
brings a new level of realism to many auto driving and submarine simulation
packages, including Microsoft's "Flight Simulator," Sublogics "Flight
Assignment A.T.P.," Lucasfilm's "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" and
Broderbund's "Stunts."
Colorado Spectrum is preparing to expand the Mouse Yoke family with product
introductions planned for later this year. Additions to the product line
will include mouse-driven devices with wheel and joystick handles. Support
for optical mice via an optical grid overlay for the yoke shaft is under
investigation. List price for the Mouse Yoke is $34.95, and it is now
currently in stock on many shelves. Colorado Spectrum may be reached at
800/238-5983 or fax at 303/225-1663. The company's address is 748 Whaler's
Way, Suite E-201, Fort Collins, CA 80525.
