  1. Loren J. Rittle Software is happy to announce that NewPop v4.0 is now
  2. available from ab20.larc.nasa.gov.  NewPop has its roots in PopCLI III,
  3. but has far eclipsed the functionality contained with that program.
  4.  
  5. NewPop v4.0 sports the following features:
  6.  * screen blanking with cute Q*X pattern display on blanked screen.
  7.  * cli/command popper.
  8.  * instant- and defeat-blanking via HOT KEYS and pointer position.
  9.  * titlebar CPU usage (actually # of task switches/second) monitor.
  10.  * titlebar SCSI I/O usage monitor.
  11.  * titlebar memory (graphics and fast) monitor.
  12.  * titlebar clock.
  13.  * joystick movements are detected and counted as `input events'.
  14.  * lock/password to restore from a blanking.
  15.  * detects 2.0 and uses 2.0's System() call, if available.
  16.  * quite robust, due to extensive beta testing, with respects to
  17.    different OS's and computer models.  [this was not true with v3.2]
  18.  * fully configurable, in that:
  19.     - you can turn off any feature you don't want.
  20.     - you can set many parameters controlling how NewPop should act
  21.       e.g. NICENEWPOP  NEWPOPLITE  WEWANTWINDOWDRAG  LOCK
  22.       BACKDROPWINDOW  WIMPYCLOCK  MAXSCSIUSAGE  SCSIIOMONWIDTH
  23.       CPULOADMONWIDTH  SCSITASKNAME  FONTNAME  COMMAND PASSWORD
  24.       MEMORYMONWIDTH  GAPBETWEEN3  GAPBETWEEN2  GAPBETWEEN  FONTSIZE
  25.       STARTYOFFSET  MAXTEXTWIDTH  STARTXOFFSET  WINDOWHEIGHT  TIMEOUT
  26.       POPKEY  BLANKERPRIORITY  ULC  LLC  LRC  URC  INSTANTKEY  DEFEATKEY
  27.       all control some aspect of NewPop.

  29. Programmers will enjoy the fact that NewPop is multithreaded with
  30. up to three separate tasks interacting with one another to get the
  31. job done.  AND source is included for interested parties.
