  1. FIREFLIES was inspired by Asian fireflies that synchronize their flashes (Science News: Aug 31, 1991 pp. 136-137).

  3. ΓÇ£Cycle LengthΓÇ¥ is the time between flashes. ΓÇ£DensityΓÇ¥ is measured in fireflies per pixel. ΓÇ£Flash LengthΓÇ¥ is the fraction of the cycle length that the flash is visible.
