NCS SCSI Host Adapter
for
Microsoft Windows NT 3.1
Copyright 1993 Nolan Computer Systems
All rights reserved.
This device driver is distributed on an AS-IS basis to allow
using the NCS SCSI host adapters with the Microsoft
Windows NT operating system. This device driver allows
connecting not only read-only devices such as CD-ROMs, but
many other SCSI devices including those with writeable
media. While NCS has made an attempt to verify the
proper operation of the driver, the majority of the testing
has been with Chinon's CDS-435 and CDS-535 series CD-ROM
drives.
The distribution disk is included:
README.TXT
NCS.SYS NCS-250-SC host adaptor NT mini port driver
CDAUDIO.SYS IF You have CDS-435, you have to install this also.
OEMSETUP.INF NT reads this file for setup.
NCS Setup needs this files to start setup.
TXTSETUP.OEM NT installation software reads this file
Installation
There are two ways to install the NCS SCSI host adapter
"Miniport" device driver. If you are setting up Windows NT
for the first time, you can include the NCS device driver
during the intial text mode setup. If you already have
Windows NT installed, you can use the Windows NT Setup
application which is normally found in the Main program
group of the Administrator.
Text Mode (Initial) Setup
To install the NCS device driver during the initial, text
mode setup:
1. Use the Custom Setup option presented in the second
screen of the setup process by entering C.
2. The setup program will scan for any of the standard host
adapters supported.
3. You are then given the option to load device drivers from
a device support disk from an adapter manufacturer.
Select this option by pressing S.
4. Highlight:
Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware
manufacturer)
in the list of SCSI Adapters, then press ENTER.
5. Insert the diskette containing the NCS.SYS device
driver and associated setup files in the floppy drive you
are using to begin the Windows NT installation process as
prompted. Then press ENTER when ready.
6. Select:
NCS-250-SC Host Adapter
and then press ENTER again.
7. The device driver will be loaded. It will scan for any
NCS host adapters installed on your ISA bus. If it
detects one or more NCS SCSI adapters, NCS Host
Adapter will be added to the list of SCSI Adapters in
your computer and will be installed in Windows NT.
Windows NT Setup
To add the NCS SCSI host adapter device driver to a
system with Windows NT already installed:

2. Run
Windows NT Setup
which is normally found in the Main program group.

Add/Remove SCSI Adapters...
4. Click Add... from the SCSI Adapter Setup dialog box.
5. From the Select SCSI Adapter Option list box, select the
last entry:

host adapter device driver and associated setup files.

9. At the Select SCSI Adapter Option box, select Install to
install the NCS device driver.
10.Make sure the path is correct to the floppy disk
containing your NCS device driver files and then
choose Continue.
11.Windows NT Setup will then copy the NCS device driver
to its system directory and configure the system
registery to activate the device driver the next time
Windows NT is started.
12.If you have CDS-435, select ADD... and continue from #4 to 7
above numbers, and select NCS CD-ROM Audio Functions for #8
and continue #9.
13.Select OK to indicate there are no additional SCSI host
adapter drivers to be installed.
14.Close the Windows NT Setup application. It will warn you
that the device driver you have just added will not be
