Copyright 1995 - Regnoc Software
Requires: Windows 3.1+, Windows for Workgroups 3.1+
Windows NT 3.5+, or Windows 95
Summary:
Lock your files in a software safe and set the combination.
Mail the safe using any form of electronic mail. Anyone
receiving the file sees a closed safe, but can only access
its contents if they know the combination. Accepts all types
of data from disk files, clipboard cut and paste, drag and
drop, OLE, etc. Visual and audio feedback in the user
interface (sound effects.)
Uses:
Use the Safe Program to protect confidential files transmitted
by electronic mail or stored in public areas such a the LAN

maintain separate security codes. Works with any form of
electronic mail that supports file transfers, including
Microsoft Mail, Lotus cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, CompuServe, and
the Microsoft Network. You can also mail the Safe Program
itself to friends, because it is Shareware.

===== Installation =====================================
Safe Program Installation:
==========================
1) Copy all of the files from your source disk to a single
directory on your hard disk. If you like, you can create
a new directory called \SAFE on your hard disk to hold
your Safe Program Files. Use the Windows File Manager
(Explorer in Windows 95) to create directories and copy
files.
2) Start the SAFE.EXE program running, either by double-
clicking the file name from within the Windows File
Manager (Explorer) or by using the Run Command from the
Program Manager (Start button in Windows 95.)
3) The Safe Program will detect that this is the first time
it has been run on your system, and will request that you
enter a secret user password. This password protects your
personal list of combinations, so be sure that you keep it
as secret.
4) The Safe Program will also ask if you would like to add
the Safe Program's icon to your accessories group. This
provides a shortcut way to start the program.
5) The Safe Program will complete installing itself, and
will be ready to use. The SAFE.HLP help file contains all
of the instructions and registration information.
6) Enjoy!
Note on Windows 3.1 Compatibility:
==================================
The Safe Program uses OLE 2.0 (Object Linking and Embedding)
which is a protocol that Microsoft released after Windows 3.1.
If you have installed any of the recent Microsoft applications
such as Word 6.0, Excel 6.0, or Access 2.0, your copy of Windows
will have had OLE 2.0 features added. You can check if OLE 2.0
is present by looking for the file OLE2.DLL in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM
directory. If the OLE2.DLL file is present, you are all set and
can proceed to install the Safe Program with step 1 (above.)
(If you are on a networked system with Windows running from the
server, have your network adminstrator check for OLE2.DLL, and
do any necessary changes.)
If OLE2.DLL is not present you will need to add the OLE 2.0 library
files to your computer. This is a simple matter of copying files
into your WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory and double-clicking one file
with the mouse. The OLE 2.0 files are located on the disk labled
OLE 2.0 Files For Windows 3.1 (if you obtained the disks from
Regnoc Software) or can be downloaded from CompuServe's WINSHARE
forum in the file OLE2UPGD.ZIP. Other BBS systems also have
OLE2UPDG.ZIP.
The procedure for adding the OLE 2.0 features to Windows 3.1 is as
follows:
1) Start the Windows File Manager running (Explorer in Windows 95.)
2) Copy all of the files from the disk to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory. You do not need to copy README.TXT.
3) Double-click the file OLE2.REG with your mouse. This will
regiter the OLE 2.0 libraries on your system.
4) Close the Windows File Manager and install the Safe Program as
described above.
SHARE.EXE with Windows 3.1
==========================
If your system reports sharing violations, you are runing Windows 3.1
without the SHARE.EXE program installed. You will need to add
SHARE.EXE to yor AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that it is automatically
loaded with your machine starts up. A typical entry allowing 500 file
locks and reserving 5100 bytes for share information is:
SHARE /L:500 /F:5100
Regnoc Software also markets the Signature Program, which can be used to
sign Windows documents electronically. Look for the file SIGN.ZIP.
===== Warranty =========================================
Report any problems to Regnoc Software. There is a user feedback form
towards the end of the help file (SAFE.HLP)
===== License for Use and Distribution =================
The Safe Program is protected under US and international copyright law.
Copyright 1995 by Regnoc Software
Because the Safe Program is a Shareware program, you are free to give
copies to friends so long as you do not charge for the copies and as
long as you do not modify the files in any way. The minimum files to cop
y
are the following:
SAFE.EXE - The program itself
SAFE.HLP - The help file, also containing registration information.
MFCOLEUI.DLL - A library file used by SAFE.EXE
===== About VENDINFO Files =============================
Each VENDINFO.DIZ file contains extensive information about a product.
This "human-readable" section is followed by a compressed data record
useable by automated tools. The data record allows BBSes and other
distributors to automate package handling, and provides users with a
wealth of product information. VENDINFO tools (free viewer for users,
free or inexpensive processors for distributors, editors for authors)
are available from many sources, including the originators of VENDINFO:
