<p>As you enter information in Money over a period of years, your file size can grow large enough to cause Money to run more slowly. To reduce your file size, you can <glossary>archive</glossary> old data that you don't need to see regularly. When you archive, Money compresses the archived file to maximize the available space on your computer.</p>
<p>When you archive information in your Money file, you can specify:</p>
<ul>
<li><emph>A "prior to" date.</emph> All transactions prior to the date you choose will be archived.</li>
<li><emph>The file name and location.</emph> As with any file you create in Money, you decide the name of the file and where you want to save it.</li>
<li><emph>Specific accounts.</emph> After you've chosen the archive date, you can specify which accounts in your Money file you want to archive. Any accounts you don't archive will remain in your Money file.</li>
</ul>
<p>You can retrieve the archived file later just as you would open any other file on your computer. However, your archived file will be a separate file from your current Money file. You cannot easily merge the two files together again.</p>
