<klink type="prcdr">How do I plan for a sabbatical from work?</klink>
</index>
<content>
<p>Often, taking a sabbatical means you'll have a drastic reduction in income. Money can help you forecast your household income during your time off to make sure you'll have enough funds to cover your budgeted expenses.</p>
<p variant="note">This procedure assumes that you've already created a lifetime plan.</p>
<ol>
<li>On the <emph>Planner</emph> menu, click <emph>Lifetime Planner</emph>.</li>
<li>In the left pane, click <emph>Income</emph>.</li>
<li>Click <emph>Your Name Career</emph> or <emph>Your Partner's Name Career</emph>.</li>
<li>Click <emph>New</emph>.</li>
<li>Click <emph>Take unpaid time off</emph>, and then click <emph>Next</emph>.</li>
<li>Type a description for the time off, and enter start and end dates for your leave.</li>
<li>Click <emph>Finish</emph>.</li>
<li>In the left pane, click <emph>Results,</emph> and then click <emph>The Bottom Line</emph>.</li>
<li>Review your forecast details.</li>
</ol>
<p variant="note">If you don't like your forecast, go back to the <emph>Career</emph> page, click one of the <emph>Take unpaid time off</emph> events in the list, click <emph>Edit</emph>, and then change the end date to shorten your sabbatical. Another option is to see if you can afford to increase your savings contributions. If not, you may not be able to afford this sabbatical.</p>

<tease>Can I test this scenario without changing my lifetime plan?</tease>
<reveal>
<p>Yes. In the <emph>Financial Event Modeler</emph> on the <emph>Planner</emph> menu, click the question <emph>What if name didn't work for X years?</emph> and review the results. You can also see how the scenario would affect your lifetime plan. <alink type="prcdr" href="Chooseascenarioandseehowitwouldaffectmyplan.xml"/></p>
