  1.            Important Notes for VideoWork v1.5 Rev.3

  4. Welcome to the world of multimedia video production!
  5.  
  6. VideoWork is your best choice for video capturing and editing to produce
  7. your multimedia presentation programs. This revision of VideoWork can give
  8. you even more. Most enhanced functions that are not included in the user's
  9. manual will be explained in the on-line help provided with the software.
  10. The following lists the important information about VideoWork that is not
  11. contained in the documentation or VWORK.HLP in the software.
  12.  
  13. 1. New enhanced functions are as follows:
  14.     . The 'Import' function now includes FLI and FLC animation file formats
  15.       and image files like BMP, TGA, JPG, TIF, PCX and PCD.
  16.     . Now you can use the drag-and-drop feature to edit the AVI files:
  17.     1) Open multiple AVI files for editing.
  18.     2) Click and drag the mouse left button in the source AVI window
  19.        and then move the mouse to the target AVI window.
  20.     3) When you release the mouse button in the target window, a pop-up
  21.        menu will appear listing three functions to combine the videos.
  22.     4) The three functions are Insert, Paste Insert and Paste Overwrite
  23.        which are the same as the corresponding commands in "Edit" menu.
  24.        With drag-and-drop, it is much easier for you to combine any
  25.        two videos.
  26.     5) If you drop the video in the client area of VideoWork in Step 2,
  27.        a new AVI file will be extracted from the source AVI file.
  28.     . New 'Undo' function is included in 'Edit' menu.
  29.     . New 'Magic' function included in 'Edit' menu which provide panning,
  30.       zooming, 3D rotating and color keying functions all in one.
  31.     . New 'Print to Video' function in 'File' menu.
  32.     . New 'Clean' function in 'Edit' menu.
  33.     . New 'Synchronize' function in 'Audio' menu.
  34.     . New 'Close All' function in 'Window' menu.
  35.     . A 'rebuild' button included in media window.
  36.     . Film Edit window now can move audio and video separately.
  37.     . New 'Preference' setting included.
  38.     . New 'Palette' function under Capture menu.
  39.     . New 'Compress...' options under Capture Video Sequence settings.
  40.     . When capture single frame from video source, Video Work will also
  41.       build a new AVI document.

  44. 2. Questions & Answers listed below would give you assistance on operation
  45.    in VideoWork.
  46.  
  47.    Q: It takes very long to execute every command in VideoWork. How could I
  48.       configure my system to obtain the best performance?
  49.  
  50.    A: If your system RAM is large enough, open a RAM drive and set VideoWork
  51.       working directory to this drive in the Preferences dialog box. Also,
  52.       if your hard disk contains much free space and is fast enough, set
  53.       your AVI file compressor to "None" and then use a better compressor
  54.       when saving the file. Please close any unused AVI file while using
  55.       a RAM drive.

  58.    Q: My hard disk still has very large free space. Why can't I open files
  59.       for running out of space?
  60.  
  61.    A: First, check on your working directory specified in the Preferences
  62.       dialog box and see if there is enough space in that hard disk. (Please
  63.       switch to DOS or File Manager to check it out.) If the space is not
  64.       enough, please close all the unused files for editing. If the space is
  65.       enough and you can still not open files, maybe the resources of the MCI
  66.       driver are all occupied. Please close all the unused MDI windows. If
  67.       there is still no improvement, try to change your working directory.

  70.    Q: Why the Video Viewer been dimmed (disabled)?
  71.  
  72.    A: Video Viewer will be disabled when the driver of the capture
  73.       card is not installed or failed, or when the capture card encounters
  74.       a failure on installation, i.e. hardware conflict. Please check on
  75.       your hardware manual to figure out the problem.

  78.    Q: Why the audio capturing function been dimmed (disabled)?
  79.  
  80.    A: The audio capturing function is disabled while the driver of the sound
  81.       card fails or sound card installation fails.

  84.    Q: I have successfully installed the sound card and drivers, but I still
  85.       cannot capture the Video with sound?
  86.  
  87.    A: First, check to see if the "Capture With Audio" is set in the capture
  88.       dialog box. Second, check to see if you have turn on the 'line in'
  89.       volume of your sound card.
  90.       Check the "Capture With Audio", turn on the line in volume (Normally
  91.       in a Mixer program) and try it again.

  94.    Q: When will the Preview or Overlay mode been dimmed (disabled)?
  95.  
  96.    A: Not all the capture cards both support Preview and Overlay mode.
  97.       One of them will be dimmed if the capture card does not support
  98.       the corresponding mode.

  101.    Q: Why the video become blurred and the video looks darkened
  102.       after applying several effects?
  103.  
  104.    A: Some compressors, including Microsoft Video 1, Intel Indeo, SuperMac,
  105.       and Microsoft RLE, are lossy compressors which would cause data lost
  106.       if applied too many times. As a result the video look blurred.
  107.       Please change the video format to Non-Compressed, and then
  108.       proceed to applying the effects.

  111.    Q: Before I apply the Insert or Paste Insert function, there are 16 frames
  112.       in clipboard. Why are there only 10 frames left after pasting?
  113.  
  114.    A: VideoWork will make some transformation to the pasted fragment to fit
  115.       the destination AVI, such as video format, compressor, frame rate,
  116.       audio format, sampling rate, etc. If the frame number after pasting
  117.       does not match that before pasting, maybe the frame rate is different
  118.       between the pasted fragment and destination AVI. If you want to keep
  119.       the original frame number, please change the frame rate of the selected
  120.       frame fragment to be the same as the destination AVI with the "Keep
  121.       Playback Speed" option disabled before cutting or copying it to the
  122.       clipboard.

  125.    Q: I edited    .AVI file that came from my CD-ROM. When I try to play the
  126.       edited file before saving to harddisk, I cannot have it played in
  127.       normal speed. Why ?
  128.  
  129.    A: You should rebuild the edited .AVI files first. Simply click "rebuild"
  130.       button at video window. This action will rearrange the .AVI files that
  131.       are suitable to be playback with MCI driver.

  134.    Q: The captured avi file have strange numbers at fps (frames per second)
  135.       when I click to see file information. Why ?
  136.  
  137.    A: It is probably a kind of calculation trade-off between capture driver
  138.       and system capturing capability. However, this does not affect normal
  139.       operation of Video Work and the captured file is no problem.

  142.    Q: What is the maximum capture time in Video Work ?
  143.  
  144.    A: There are "no Capture Time Limit" and "Capture Time Limit" modes.
  145.       When check at Capture Time Limit under Capture Video Sequence dialog
  146.       box, the maximum capture time is 500sec.
