This is a simple and resident program. It controls any external
electrical device with neither special card nor windows but a simple
electronic circuit is necessary.
Type or power of the external device does not cause a problem. It
works safety from 1 Volt to thousands volts.
A simple lamp, frigidare, ventilation motors, lathe turner, stove or
any heater can be connected to the computer.
Original package includes the electronic diagram of a very simple
circuit and a short TSR program activates the serial port.
It is easy to use :
When <Scroll Lock> is light ON, external device works
When <Scroll Lock> is light OFF, external device stops
WHERE IS THE TRIGGER SIGNAL ?
In this version, 7.th pin of COM#1 is enable. A convenient connector
must be prepared to the bellowing pin:

ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT:
Transistor Universal Npn (TUN) must be any powerful key-transistor.
I am advise the use of 2N3055. The mechanic relay must be chosen according
to specifities of electrical device used. This circuit (exception the
mechanic relay) can be placed in computer's case.
Moreover, computer's power outputs (5V and 15V) can be used as to be
+Vcc supply of this circuit, because this circuit pulls 40-50 µA in its rest
position but it is difficult to estimate activation current. It mostly
depends on resistance of the mechanic relay used. However, usually activation
current is about 80-150 mA. This quantity electric current can be easy
tolerated by power system of any PC/AT.

Principle:
When a positive trigger signal appeared at 7.th pin of COM #1
(this occurs when Scroll Lock was switched on), thus, base polarity of TUN
climbs. This increment was limited by 10 KΩ rheostat. For this reason, this
rheostat must be adjusted when the mechanic relay was not clicked despite
to the fact that higher base polarity is present.
Positive polarity of the base causes an increment of the current
between collector-emiter. Thus, the mechanic relay clicks and device runs
throughout the base polarity remains to be positive.
Then, a negative signal appears at 7.th pin of COM #1 (this occurs
by Scroll Lock was shut down), thus, collector-emiter current collapses, the
mechanic relay releases, whereby, device stops.
MAY IT DESTROY THE I/O CARD?
No, this is highly safe method. However, avoid to make short-circuit between
tips of the port. (especially between the pins of mechanic relay !!!!)
Instantaneous contacts between serial pins have not a deleterious
effect, if it does not extent over one hour or more. Take your own risk, or,
in order to protect your I/O card, you must not omit to use a 1 kΩ (¼ W) of
resistance with serially to the out-put pin. (This is not a prerequisite.)
HOW CAN I CHECK THE CIRCUIT BEFORE RUN
For this purpose, download the SQW_2.ZIP (45064 bytes) from:
http://www.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/electrcl/sqw_2.zip
ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/electrcl/sqw_2.zip
-or-
ftp://garbo.uwasa.fi/pc/science/sqw_2.zip
The SQW_2.ZIP is a Square Wave generator with a PC alone that includes
a TEST menu. You can run it. It is very easy to use and just compatible with
this program.
Note: If you are have the source files, this program can be modified
as follows:
1. Begin on a described date / a described hour
Stop on a described date / a described hour
2. Begin on a described date / a described hour
Continue with a described interruptions
Stop on a described date / a described hour
3. Many ports can be triggered WITHOUT any special card
All ports can work to be independed and resident

via E-mail.
