WHAT IS PANEL - VERSION 4.0
Panel will create and print custom circuit directories that will insert into the cover or display area
of any panel, switchboard, motor control center or any electrical distribution system.
SAFETY: Increase safety, efficiency and professionalism with a well formatted and organized
system of circuit identification.
DATABASE: A complete database system that will store the circuit directory and panel information
as one record.
INFORMATION: Panel 4.0 will store information such as, each circuit item, circuit number, breaker
size, panel name, location, amps, volts, phase, wire, main breaker or fuse size, mounting, ground
information, conductor, raceway, manufacturer, breaker type, rms-aic rating, customer or building
information, prepared by information, headers, footer and a special notes section.
ADVERTISEMENT: The headers or footer section is the perfect place to put your company phone
numbers, emergency number, logo or other contact instructions.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: A header or footer is the perfect place for reminder instructions when
de-energizing a circuit or other procedure related information.
PRINTED DIRECTORIES: Print various types and sizes of directories such as standard or single
column format. Directories are in a very attractive boxed style. Each printed directory is constructed
based on the data entered.
If data at the head of the directory is not entered, the directory is built with a smaller top section.
Each directory is a customized version of the data entered. Each panel is a record stored in the data
file. Records are later found using three indexes. Customer name, Panel name or Panel location.
Panel will store as many panels as disk space will allow. (100,000 panels or more). All fields are
completely defined by you. Any circuit numbering format is set by you.
Each directory is built to the size that is placed in the circuits field. Panel will print large or small
directories choose the size best suited for each project. Print standard directories or single column
directories for single row panels. Print a field form that is used to gather field data. Improve customer
relations for your company by maintaining a circuit directory program as a service. Offer customers
free circuit directory printing
INCREASING SAFETY IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT REASON TO USE A CIRCUIT

CONVERT VERSION 2X DATA TO 4.X FORMAT:
This utility is for users of Panel 2.0 or 2.1 for DOS. The utility will take the file "Panel.Mdb" extract
each record from the DOS database file and display a selection box to import the desired records into
Panel 4.x.
When installing Panel 4.0 for Windows, it is recommended to install into the same directory as the
DOS version OR copy the DOS database file "Panel.Mdb" into the Panel 4.0 folder. The reason is
the version 2x database file Panel.Mdb must be in the same directory as Panel 4.0 to import 2x data
into 4.0

PRODUCT OR U.S. $5.00:
QUICK INSERT:
Use the quick insert feature by double clicking on the selected field or the description frame to quick
insert predefined text into the circuit description, circuit size, prepared for, prepared by, headers and
footer fields. The text is defined in the quick insert window that is accessible from the top tool bar
icon. The bottom status bar will display the text that will paste into the description or size field when
doubled clicked with the left mouse button
The quick insert screen has four main sections:
1. The description and size section. This section has twenty one fields to define text that would be
typed often. for example "General outlets" , "Lighting circuit for room ??" or even the ("" double
quotes) to put under 2 or 3 pole breakers.
TO INSERT DATA INTO THE DESCRIPTION AND SIZE FIELDS:
1. Make visible the quick insert window by clicking the icon in the top tool bar.
2. Enter the text using up to 21 fields.
3. Select the field by clicking with the mouse or close the window with the cursor on selected text.
4. The selected text will display at the bottom status bar of the main window.
5. Double click on any description or size field to insert the selected text.
TO INSERT DATA INTO THE PREPARED FOR, PREPARED BY OR HEADER FIELDS:
1. Make visible the quick insert window by clicking the icon in the top tool bar.
2. Enter the default text in the prepared for, prepared by, header and footer fields.
3. Double click on the frame (not the field itself) to insert the text.
For example; Enter your company name, address, city, state and zip in the prepared by box of the
quick insert window. Next create a new record by clicking the add new icon on the top tool bar.
With the mouse double click on the frame (click where is says "Prepared By"). This action will take
the text typed into the prepared by box of the quick insert window and place it into the current
record. It's that simple.
GRID DISPLAY:
With the grid display multiple records are quickly analyzed. The button in the "Prepared for Name
field will send a record to the printer for a quick print using the default directory style.
Data in the grid can be changed. When a change has occurred a pencil will display at the left column.
When a move to another record occurs the new data will write to disk.
PRINT DEFAULT DIRECTORY:
Use the Print default directory to: define a directory to print when printing from the grid window.
The available directories are 8, 9 or 10 font boxed style.
Once a directory type is selected, clicking the button at the right of the prepared for name field will
automatically send the directory to the default Windows printer. This feature allows a very quick
method of printing various multiple directories.
PRINT OPTIONS:
Select destination, and type of report.
To Produce a report:
1. Select to send the report to the printer or a window.
2. Place a check mark by the type of report to produce.
3. Press the send command button.
When multiple reports are selected with the window as the destination a separate window is created
for each report.
INSERT A NUMBER IN THE SIZE FIELDS:
Select this feature to quickly insert a number in all the size fields. Example: many lighting panels are
filled with 20 amp single pole breakers. This utility will save the trouble of typing 20 in the size fields
for 42 fields.
COPY THIS RECORD TO A NEW RECORD:
A time saving command that will copy the prepared for, prepared by, header and footer information
of the current record into a newly created record.
DATABASE FILE REPAIR OR COMPACT:
A repair utility that can be used to repair a database file that may have been damaged, such as loss
of power that occurred during a database read or write operation. A Compaction utility can be used to compact a database file. When a record is deleted it is removed from view, however the disk space used by the deleted record is still part of the database file. The compaction utility recreates the database file with valid records only thus saving disk space.
PREPARED FOR NAME:
The Prepared for Name field is an indexed field. When the index is set on the Prepared for Name the
records will be sorted in ascending order based on the information in the Name field. The prepared
for information can be used in two ways. When used by an electrical contracting firm the customer
information such as name address etc. In the case of a large facilities this could be a building name
or number, a floor or any format that is appropriate.
PANEL NAME:
The Panel Name field is an indexed field. When the index is set on the Panel Name the records will
be sorted in ascending order based on the information in the Panel Name field. This field will hold up
to 40 characters. A double description is easily achieved.
(Ex: HVLP-3 Third floor Lighting)
PANEL LOCATION:
The Panel Location field is an indexed field. When the index is set on the Panel Location records will
be sorted in ascending order based on the information in the Panel Location field. This field will hold
up to 40 characters. This type of information is mainly useful when analyzing panel information from
the office.
PANEL AMPS:
Information about the ampere rating of the panel. In some cases this may be different than the
ampere rating of the main breaker or fuses. An example would be a panel ampere rating of 400 with
a main breaker size of 250.
PANEL VOLTS:
Voltage the panel is operating at. Some typical systems are 120/240, 208Y/120, 240, 480Y/277, 600
PHASE:
Phase of the system. Generally 1 or 3.
WIRE:
Information about the electrical system. Generally 3 or 4 wire systems.
CIRCUITS:
The circuits field defines the size of the directory that will be created. A value of 42 is the maximum
value this field can accept. A entry in the circuits field is required to produce a report.
CIRCUIT #, DESCRIPTION & SIZE:
The circuit number field can accept any numbering format that is used and will hold two characters.
The description field will hold up to thirty characters. The size field will hold up to eight characters.
PREPARED BY NAME:
Prepared by information will print at the top right of the circuit directory.
RACEWAY:
Information about the raceway feeding the panel. This may be a pipe size or a cable type.
CONDUCTOR SIZE & TYPE:
Information about the conductors, or cable feeding the panel. Ex: #2 Cu THHN
FED FROM LOCATION:
Information about where the panel is fed from. This could be another panel in a different electric
room (Ex: Panel HVDP3 Rm 227) or for a single family dwelling it could be (Ex: Outside meter).
BREAKER TYPE:
Plug in OR bolt on type circuit breaker or any special characteristic about the breakers such as, shunt
trip, frame size, Solid state, Manufacturer catalog number, AC or DC rated, Heavy duty, Normal
duty, Current limiting, Surge arrestor, SWD or any information.
MANUFACTURER:
Information about the manufacturer of the panel. This becomes useful when examining the panel
characteristics at the computer.
RMS, AIC RATING:
RMS, AIC rating of the circuit breakers or fuses. The current interrupting rating is expressed in rms
symmetrical amperes. It is the maximum current the breaker can be expected to safely interrupt. UL
requires all circuit breakers to be so marked with their proper ratings. Some typical UL interrupting
ratings for molded case circuit breakers (120 to 600 volts) are 10,000 - 14,000 - 18,000 - 22,000 -
