- Users of other versions
- ----------------------
- Throw away all previous ASTRO3A related files. This version is not
- compatible with any previous versions.
-
- Installation
- -----------
- Make a directory APP and a sub directory ASTRO3A. Copy ASTRO3A.OPA to
- the APP directory and all other files to the APP/ASTRO3A directory.
- Install using normal procedures and the icon should appear. The files can
- be spread across any devices ie Flash, Internal etc as long as the structure
- laid out above is maintained. NB A preferences file is not supplied, but is
- automatically created on the internal drive the first time the program is
- run. This is 90 bytes in size.
-
- It is possible to run without the help file, if need be. If you are tight on
- space remove Astro3a.hlp and Sys$help.opo. DO NOT remove any other files!
-
- **If you have used a previous version of ASTRO3A, please remove the old
- preferences file. Version 1.20 is a slightly different structure.**
-
- Introduction
- -----------
-
- Astro3a is a computerised Almanac. It features many of the predictions found
- in a Nautical Almanac book. It must be pointed out that the Astro3a's accuracy
- has not been verfied. With that said, on most occasions ASTRO3A comes very
- close when comparing it's output with REED's Almanac. I hope users other
- than casual observers will find it accurate enough for their needs.
-
- What does it do?
- -------------------
-
- ASTRO3A can predict the rising and setting of the Sun, Moon, planets and 78
- bright stars. It also gives position information for any time from 1970
- to 2010. Other useful data includes phase, magnitude, angular size
- new/full Moon and twilight times.
-
- Improvements (for users of earlier versions)
- ------------------------------------------
- Stars: format is now a tabular view of 78 stars (Common Almanac stars
- plus 18 other bright stars.) It is possible to calculate all 78 at once
- or individually with slightly more detail.
-
- ROM based cities. I have included the PSION cities in this version for some
- consistancy with latitude/longitude etc. Much more useful I hope.
-
- Accuracy: Hard to quantify but it is a definate improvement at latitudes
- above 64 degrees. Rise and set routines have been changed(improved?).
-
- Ephemeris: Control of steps in minutes. Smaller(neater) font used enables
- 10 steps maximum.
-
- Other changes
- -------------
- Completely tidied up. The last version should not have been released like
- that. Hope this corrects it.
- 'No Object' option added to Time dialogs. Used primarily for the Star
- calculations but useful for time checks.
- Time/Coords dialog defaults to 1/1/1970. It also stores the entered time
- between selections.
- Moon Age added.
- Preferences overhauled and corrected.
- Help file added.
- TimeZone bugs fixed.
- Pluto removed from Planet selection. (I debated over whether Neptune and
- Uranus predictions were of any use to the casual user as well...but they
- still remain).
-
- Details of Operation are contained within the help file.
-
- This software is donationware. This is the full version and not crippled
- in anyway. If you use it please send a donation/postcard/description of
- how you are using it.
-
- Disclaimer
- ----------
- This is for casual observation use ONLY. I would appreciate reports of
- serious errors.
-
- **Pirates, If you are using this at sea don't blame me if you end up
- shipwrecked.**
