source for Powersoft Development Tools and Languages related reference
data including all technical support resource information. This
up-to-date reference provides developers with immediate access to
the information they need the most.
Updated quarterly, the Development Tools and Languages Infobase gives
developers an inside track to the latest technical information available
from Powersoft and Sybase. Easy, intuitive access to powerful
information and proven troubleshooting tips and techniques help
maximize developer productivity. All of the components of the
Development Tools and Languages Infobase CD-ROM are fully indexed,
making it fast and easy to find what you need. You can quickly
search through the entire CD to locate all references to single
or multiple word phrases. Pop-up search windows display a
comprehensive index of each word on the infobase.
This "pipeline" to technical support experts provides in-depth
and timely information on subjects of special interest to
customers designing client/server applications. The CD is based
on the ongoing collaboration of customers, partners, technical
support engineers, developers and trainers. The real-world
support solutions give you the technical resources you need to
stay on top of client/server development issues.
The Development Tools and Languages Infobase CD-ROM contains a
growing collection of technical support resources, application
development topics, and partner information, including:
- Internal technical information and answers to the most commonly
encountered support questions.
- Access to the entire catalog of Powersoft and Sybase technical
FaxLine documents, including application development tips,
techniques and code samples.
- The Powersoft/Sybase Partner Directories
The Development Tools and Languages Infobase incorporates Folio Corporation's
BVIEWS technology for full featured querying, searching and data
retrieval. You can quickly access the CD and select from a
variety of information sources, or infobases. BVIEWS searches
cross all open infobases and returns a highlighted list of
"hits", all the words or phases which match your query.
Locating a specific issue or question in one or more infobases is
easily accomplished using the BVIEWS Query Window. A time saving
word list displays all words in the infobase next to your query,
greatly improving searching productivity.

the US FaxLine System and request document #4424.
GENERAL ISSUES
1. I receive the error -
unable to start folio server error creating file % s
This is the most common issue concerning the CD, and one of the
easiest to fix. When Folio starts, it reviews the environment
variables created in the autoexec.bat and attempts to create
files in the temporary directory. This message is saying that
Folio can not find that temp variable. Check the autoexec.bat
and look for a line that starts with -
SET TEMP=
A directory will be listed on the other side of the equal sign.
If the directory does not exist, exit windows, create the
directory, update the autoexec.bat with the new reference, and
re-enter Windows. Folio should now start with no problem.
If the directory does exist, chances are that you have run out of
environment space. The easiest fix for this is to delete the SET
TEMP line, and type it at the top of the autoexec.bat. Reboot,
and everything should work.
2. I receive the error - unable to open infobase - file is not of
the correct format.
This is caused when attempting to use the old Folio viewer with
the newly formatted files. The old viewer was shipped with the
Updated Fall CD from 1994. The easiest way to clear this issue
is to delete the entire \POWERCD directory from the hard drive
and re-install the infobase.
3. I have installed the entire CD on the network, to make it
accessible to everyone. The jumplinks do not seem to work. If I
install on my local drive, it works fine.
If the jumplinks are not working when the CD has been installed
on a network drive, rename the LNAME.INI file in the \INFOS
directory on the network to GNAME.INI. This should solve the
issue.
4. I get an error stating that I can`t find the file CTL3DV2.DLL,
even though the file does exist in my \windows\system directory.
This was caused by an error in the installation of CTL3DV2.DLL.
Other programs may have been using the DLL when the installation
was attempted. The file will have to be installed manually. It
is safest to do this from DOS. First place the Infobase CD into
the CD-ROM drive. Then, go to the root directory of the drive
and type the following command -
COPY CTL3DV2.DL_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\CTL3DV2.DLL
This should place a clean copy of the file in your windows\system
directory.
5. I have been using the CD, when it suddenly can not find the
file CTL3DV2.DLL.
There is an error in the SCREENCAM software that may cause it to
delete the file from the \Windows directory. Follow number 4 to
resolve this issue.
6. When I double-click on the jumplinks, they only take me within
the main menu structure.
When this happens, there is usually a problem with the LNAME.INI
file. First, check to see if there is an LNAME.INI file in the
\windows directory. If there is, delete it.
If this doesn't solve the issue, check the LNAME.INI file located
in the \INFOS directory. It should look something like this -
[Infobase Directory]
FaxLine Documents=D:\NFO\FAXDOCS.NFO
Workplace Database Technical Tips=D:\NFO\ptipswdb.NFO
Powersoft / Sybase Partner's Database=D:\NFO\Partners.NFO
Workplace Threads=D:\NFO\pt_wkp.NFO
Customer Services / Education infobase=\NFO\newcust.NFO
Thesaurus Infobase=D:\NFO\psths.NFO
Electronic Information and Help=D:\NFO\MISC.NFO
TechDocs Database=D:\NFO\faxline.nfo
Technical Support ScreenCam Videos=D:\sc\ELECAM.NFO
Workplace Infobase Advanced Menu=D:\WRKADV.NFO
Where D: is the CD-ROM drive. If it does not look like this,
there was an error in the installation. The easiest way to fix
this is to copy the LNAME.INI from the root directory of the CD
to the \INFOS directory, and the appropriate drive letters at the
beginning of the directory list.
