prepositions.
âS:

#éS Prepositions commonly answer the adverbial question ╖Where?
#(╖near ╗the closet), ╖To what extent? ╗(╖without╗ a doubt), ╖When? ╗(╖in
#the evening), and the adjective question ╖Which one? ╗(the book ╖about
Stalin).ïMost prepositions consist of only one word, as in the previous
#examples: ╖near, in, ╗and ╖about.╗ïBut there are some compound prep-
#ositions that can consist of up to three words: ╖according to, because
#╖of, instead of, in spite of, on account of, in addition to.ï╗Whether a
preposition is more than one word or not, a noun or pronoun will always
#follow that preposition: ╖among ╗the ╖pines, apart╗ from ╖him.╗ïNote
#that some words like ╖down╗ can be prepositions in one context and
#adverbs in another context.ïIn the sentence ╖I went down the slide,

#╖down, down╗ is an adverb modifying the verb form ╖looked.╗ïIn both
#cases, the preposition and the adverb answer the question ╖Where?╗

#╖down, during, except, for, from, in, inside, into, like, near, of, off,
#╖on, onto, opposite, out, outside, over, past, since, through, to,
#╖toward, under, underneath, until, up, upon, with, within, without.
#Compound prepositions include ╖according to, ahead of, apart from, aside
#╖from, as of, because of, by means of, in addition to, in back of, in
#╖place of, in spite of, instead of, in view of, next to, on account of,
#╖on top of, out of.
