  39. 1) INSTALLATION
  40. ===============

  42. Turn on your Series 7, press the System icon (bottom left of the
  43. screen), press the Menu key, under 'Tools' select 'Preferences',
  44. make sure that there is a tick next to 'show system folder' and click
  45. on 'OK'.
  46.  
  47. Go into either C:\System\Apps\ or D:\System\Apps\
  48.  
  49. From the menu, under 'File' select 'Make new folder' name it Psi-Jong.

  52. For a full installation...

  54. Copy all the files except README.TXT into this folder, which will be named..

  65. It is stongly recomended that you do a full installation, however, if you wish
  66. to save space, the minimum files you need to copy are as follows...

  85. If you wish to add extra tilesets, copy some or all of the other files ending
  86. with .TLS.

  88. If you wish to include sounds, copy some or all of the the files that are named
  89. with just 2 characters.

  91. If you wish to include background pictures, copy copy some or all of the files
  92. ending with .BGP
  93.  
  94. Any of the sounds, tilesets, or background pictures, can be added or removed at
  95. any time (as long as Psi-Jong is closed).

  101. Pressing the 'Extras' button (bottom right of screen) will now reveal
  102. this programs icon, select it to begin.
  103.  
  104. Select 'How to play' from the menu for instructions.
  105.  
  106. If you have difficulty with installation, re-read and follow carefully
  107. the above instructions, you have probably put the files in the wrong place,
  108. or named the folder incorectly. The directory must be named exactly as listed
  109. above, or the program will not work.

  111. If the folder name is correct, but the program's icon does not appear in the
  112. Extra's bar, try renaming the Psi-Jong folder to something different, wait a few
  113. moments, and then rename it to the correct name.

  117. 2) UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION
  118. ====================================

  120. If you have an earlier Series 7 version of Psi-Jong, delete the contents of
  121. your Psi-Jong folder except for the following files (if you have them)...

  145. If you have a version of Psi-Jong for a different machine, such as the Revo
  146. or Series 5, first follow the installation instructions in section 1, then
  147. if you wish to keep your score records, copy all files begining with
  148. 'SH-DONE' from your old version into the installation folder, overwriting
  149. the existing files.

  153. 3) TROUBESHOOTING
  154. =================

  156. If you have a problem, check that your batteries are not low, and that there is
  157. plenty of memory available to the program. The Series 7 may fail to play
  158. sounds when batteries are becoming low.

  160. Check that you have followed the installation instructions correctly.
  161.  
  162. If the folder name is correct, but the program's icon does not appear in the
  163. Extra's bar, try renaming the Psi-Jong folder to something different, wait a few

  180. 4) HOW TO PLAY

  184. Menu.

  188. 5) REGISTRATION
  189. ===============
  190. Full instructions on how to register and details of cost are given within the
  191. program, just select 'How to Register' from the menu, you will be asked a few
  192. questions to determine which method of registration best suites you, followed by
  193. full instructions and details of cost for the method of registration selected.

  199. When you register you will receive a code that will enable this program to be
  200. used with your Series 7. The code is linked to the Unique ID of your Series 7,
  201. if for any reason a replacment code is required, one will be supplied free of
  202. charge. If you requre further codes for any reason (including changes in your
  203. Series 7's Unique ID due to repair, or to replace a lost code), you will need
  204. to register for the new Unique ID. You will recieve a new code, and again be
  205. entitled to 1 free replacement code if needed.

  207. The above policy is necessary to minimise piracy, and to keep the amount of time
  208. spent dealing with each registration to an acceptable level, which in turn,
  209. enables me to keep the cost of registration low.

  229. 7) ADDING YOUR OWN BACKGROUND PICTURES
  230. ======================================

  232. PLEASE NOTE: No technical support is given on the supject of adding your own
  233. pictures, please don't email me with questions about it, but the information
  234. below should help you .
  235.  
  236. Enter the Sketch program on your Series 7, select from the menu under 'File',
  237. 'Create new file', give the file a name. Now select from the menu under 'Tools',
  238. 'Resize sketch', set the width to 640 pixels, and the height to 480 pixels.
  239.  
  240. If you create an image smaller than 640 x 480, it will be repeated to fill the
  241. background, this way you can make a background that is less than 1k in size.
  242.  
  243. Now draw or merge in an image (under 'File' select 'More' then 'Merge in').
  244.  
  245. Under 'Edit' select 'Select all'.
  246.  
  247. Under 'File' select 'More' then 'Export', you must now name the file.
  248.  
  249. The file name should be no more than 8 characters.
  250.  
  251. A file will be created as you named it, followed by '.mbm', this ending must be
  252. renamed to '.bgp'. Select the file, and under 'File' in the Menu, select
  253. 'Rename'.
  254.  
  255. Once you have created the file, copy it to your Psi-Jong directory, if Psi-Jong
  256. is running, you will need to close the program and then restart it before it
  257. will recognise the new background image.
  258.  
  259. If you make a really good background picture, please email it to me, and I may
  260. put it on my web site for others to download, or include it in future releases
  261. of PSI-JONG.
  262.  
  263. When Psi-Jong displays a list of all available background pictures, the list is
  264. made up of a limited number of characters, if the titles of all the background
  265. pictures exceeds this limit, you will be told, and some of the pictures will
  266. not be listed.
  267.  
  268. You can either delete some of the pictures, or rename some of them with shorter
  269. names so that more can be listed.
  270.

  272. To add animated backgrounds, find an animated gif that you like, or create your
  273. own. Up to 52 frames are supported in Psi-Jong. I suggest you use a program
  274. such as paintshop pro & animation shop on a PC, extract the frames from the
  275. animation shop into paintshop pro. Create a new image with the same width as
  276. the each individual frame, the height should be (height of individual frames
  277. times the number of frames).

  279. Now copy each frame in order, into the new image placing them one beneath the
  280. other until you have copied all the frames. Now save the image as a 256 colour
  281. GIF. Convert this to a 256 colour MBM using NEUON's 'Nconvert'.
  282.  
  283. Now name the file with up to 6 characters, followed by @ if the animation to
  284. jump to the first frame when it gets to the last frame, or followed by ^ if
  285. you want the animation to reverse direction when it gets to the last frame,
  286. and again when it gets back to the first frame, or followed by % if you want
  287. the animation to randomly drift backwards and forward through the frames.

  289. Now you need to add another character to tell Psi-Jong how many frames of
  290. animation there is. Count the number of frames through the alphabet (lower
  291. case), so 6 frames would be 'f' and 26 frames would be 'z'. If your animation
  292. has more than 26 frames, continue counting using upper case characters, so 28
  293. frames would be 'B' and so on.
  294.  
  295. Now just add '.BGP' to the end of the file name. You should end up with a file
  296. named something like 'Dog@f.BGP'. Just copy your creation into your Psi-Jong
  297. folder (with Psi-Jong closed), next time you start Psi-Jong the background
  298. should be selectable.

  302. 8) FINAL COMMENT

  306. me know, and I will consider the changes for future versions, but before
  307. contacting me, please check my web site to see that you have the latest version,
  308. as I may have already made the changes you desire.
