  85. `BplBeam is an application enabling exchange of data through infrared port with other palmtops, PCs and a wide range of machines using the IrOBEX standard.
  86. EPOC system in ER5 version (Psion Series 5mx and later models) enables transmission using the IrOBEX standard. However, it is limited to exchange of single contacts and entries in Agenda only. plBeam breaks this barrier and allows for sending and receiving the whole data files and not only single records.
  87. Thanks to plBeam you do not have to install PsiWin software on your PC nor do you need a serial link cable anymore to be able to exchange data.
  88. "BAfter executing plBeam from the Extras Bar a window will open up and plBeam will be ready to receive files through Infrared.
  89. If you would like to send a file to other device you need to tap the "Send file" box (or press Enter), plBeam will ask you to choose the file you want to send and after you choose one it's ready to start the send process. Once transmission has been finished (or cancelled by user) it goes back into receiving mode.

  103. A: It can communicate with all devices supporting  OBEX standard, these include:

  106. * Windows 95 and 98 (require installation of additional software)
  107. * PalmOS
  108. * PocketPC (require installation of additional software)
  109. * C-Pen
  110. * WizCom
  111. * QuickPen
  112. and many others
  113. Q: I have Windows 95 (or 98), plBeam receives sent files but is unable to send any, what is wrong and is there any fix?
  114. A: Windows 95 and 98 don't support OBEX standard. Additional software has to be installed (for example QuickBeam Suite from Extended Systems,
  115. www.extendedsystems.com).
  116. Q: What software is necessary for PocketPC to work with plBeam?
  117. A: Peacemaker from Conduits (www.conduits.com) is the only one we are aware of working at the moment and only partially (read below).
  118. Q: I'm trying to send files to palmtop with PocketPC (with Peacemaker software installed) but I only get some garbage on the screen. What's wrong?
  119. A: Peacemaker treats all unknown to it file types as text. Data exchange with this software is only possible for the text files.

  136. CAfter installation of plBeam has been completed an "Infrared" icon will appear in Control Panel. After you tap that icon you will be asked if you want to install plBeam driver. If you decide to do so you will be presented with a plBeam information window.

  138. * From that moment on sending and receiving files to and from other OBEX enabled devices becomes very easy. It's enough to choose a folder where we want to place files and choose "Infrared receive" from the side bar menu (the one built-in into the screen). Sending files works the same way: you choose "Infrared send" from the same menu.

  647. `BplBeam is an application enabling exchange of data through infrared port with other palmtops, PCs and a wide range of machines using the IrOBEX standard.
  648. EPOC system in ER5 version (Psion Series 5mx and later models) enables transmission using the IrOBEX standard. However, it is limited to exchange of single contacts and entries in Agenda only. plBeam breaks this barrier and allows for sending and receiving the whole data files and not only single records.
  649. Thanks to plBeam you do not have to install PsiWin software on your PC nor do you need a serial link cable anymore to be able to exchange data.
  650. "BAfter executing plBeam from the Extras Bar a window will open up and plBeam will be ready to receive files through Infrared.

If you would like to send a file to other device you need to tap the "Send file" box (or press Enter), plBeam will ask you to choose the file you want to send and after you choose one it's ready to start the send process. Once transmission has been finished (or cancelled by user) it goes back into receiving mode.

  676. A: Windows 95 and 98 don't support OBEX standard. Additional software has to be installed (for example QuickBeam Suite from Extended Systems,

  678. Q: What software is necessary for PocketPC to work with plBeam?
  679. A: Peacemaker from Conduits (www.conduits.com) is the only one we are aware of working at the moment and only partially (read below).
  680. Q: I'm trying to send files to palmtop with PocketPC (with Peacemaker software installed) but I only get some garbage on the screen. What's wrong?
  681. A: Peacemaker treats all unknown to it file types as text. Data exchange with this software is only possible for the text files.

  1542. DESCRIPTION
  1543. plBeam is an application enabling exchange of data through
  1544. infrared port with other palmtops, PCs and a wide range of
  1545. machines using the IrOBEX standard.
  1546. The EPOC system in ER5 version (Psion Series 5mx and later
  1547. models) enables transmission using the IrOBEX standard. 
  1548. However, it is limited to exchange of single contacts and 
  1549. entries in Agenda only. plBeam breaks this barrier and 
  1550. allows for sending and receiving the whole data files and 
  1551. not only single records.
  1552. plBeam works perfectly with other systems using the IrOBEX
  1553. standard, among others:
  1554. - Windows 2000 and Windows Me,
  1555. - Windows 95 and Windows 98 (sending files to these systems
  1556.   requires installing special software that is supplied with
  1557.   IrDa adapters),
  1558. - PalmOS,
  1559. - WindowsCE and PocketPC (Pacemaker software has to be installed),
  1560. - CPen,
  1561. - WizCom,
  1562. - and many others.
  1563. Thanks to plBeam you do not have to install PsiWin software 
  1564. on your PC nor do you need a serial link cable anymore to be 
  1565. able to exchange data.
