Use "Add" to add a number to the List and "Edit" to alter any details.
Once the names and numbers have been added they will be shown on the screen. Just "Tap" the box to access the number.
Calls can be made in one of three ways:
Quick Call:
Dialler displays regularly called names on screen. To access these names use the "Quick List" menu option. Once entered these names will appear on screen. To dial one of these names just tap on the apprpriate box then just press "Enter".
Find & Dial: Enter a name and a Database and Dialler will look in that database for that name and will present the phone details listed in the database. If the Database that you want Dialler to look in is in use, do not worry. Dialler will first close it. Any databases that Dialler closes in this way will be re-opened once Dialler has either closed or moved to background.
Free Input: Just enter the number and details of the person to call plus a small reference and press enter.
To install Dialler create a directory called:
\SYSTEM\APPS\DIALLER and then place the following files into it:

DIALLER
A Call Management program for the Psion Series 5
Dialler is a program that has been designed to manage your incoming and outgoing telephone calls through out the day.
The software is NOT freeware so if you like it please register. It's only
8.00, however there are variations of the registration fee depending how you register. Please see the Registration chapter for further details.
If you have any ideas for improvement please mail me! (tsteven@cix.co.uk) Remember it will not get better if you don't tell me how to improve it.
OVERVIEW OF DIALLER
Dialler is used for tracking incoming and outgoing calls. Screen tapping is a much used feature of Dialler enabling you to access regularly called numbers, plus to log incoming call details, very quickly.
INSTALLATION
To install Dialler create a directory called \SYSTEM\APPS\DIALLER and place the following files into it:
Dialler.app
Dialler.aif
Dialout.scr
Dialler.mbm
Pictures.mbm
DialHelp.hlp
GoRegister.opo
There is also one other file in this zip file, this is called "SysRAM1.opx" this file must be placed in a folder called "C:\SYSTEM\OPX\".
This file is a Psion file to overcome the Epoc 32 bugs! It is essential.
Once all of these files have been placed in the correct folders, Dialler will then appear as an icon on your extra's bar..
SETTING UP
DIALLER
The first time you enter Dialler you will prompted for some basic information that Dialler requires. Most of this information is fairly straight forward and you should have no trouble. i.e You are prompted for your modem initialisation string and any charge card info and dial out code that you may wish to use. You are also prompted for a delay after dialling. This delay is critical for your set up. The time delay is variable depending on which method of dialling your are using, I have found that when dialling with a Psion modem and NOT
using a charge card a delay of 8 is long enough. If using the DTMF
tones for dialling you will find this is not long enough.
If you have trouble getting Dialler to work with your particular modem please adjust this time delay.
You are also prompted for the name of a Database that you wish Dialler to use when looking for names of people you wish to call. Point Dialler to your most commonly used Database.
Once you have entered these options, if you have chosen to use a charge card you will then be prompted for the card information. Please enter any delays for card dialling that you find necessary. Card delays should be added as commas.
Then you will be asked to show Dialler where certain information is in the Database you chose to use, i.e Dialler needs to know what position, in the Database, your Name, Phone, Fax & Mobile phone numbers are located. If you are unsure where they are, move to the Database and choose the "Change Label" option (Control L), you will now see the names of your Field Labels, this is the order that Dialler needs to know. Therefore if your "Name" field is the first label then tell Dialler that the Name field is the "First field".
I hope that's all clear, feel free to mail me if you have any problems (tsteven@cix.co.uk).
USING
DIALLER
Incoming/Receiving Calls
Dialler is best used by leaving it open on your Psion. As soon as a call is received just "Tap" the box that says "Receive Call" (or Press Control R), a dialogue will pop up and allow you to enter some details of the person calling you. i.e Name, Number, a small Reference about the call plus a Note about the call.
Whilst you are entering this text the call is being timed, you can stop the timer at any time by tapping the "Stop TImer" button, once the call has finished press "Done", a small dialogue will appear prompting you whether to "Save" the call details. Obviously if you press "Y" it will be saved if not press "N".
The details that are saved to file are the name, number and reference that you entered, the note, the call duration and the time and date that the call took place.
Outgoing Calls
There are two ways to make outgoing calls:
Method A:
Find and Dial; This method will pop up a dialogue and allow you to enter the name of the person you are calling and a reference for the call. You can then choose a database you would like to look in for the name of that person. Once you have entered the information press enter and then Dialler will proceed, searching the database that you chose.
Once the name has been found the persons name, home, work, fax, and mobile numbers can be displayed on screen. If this is not the right person you wish to call just press enter and Dialler will look for the next name from the search string that you entered. When you have the person you wish to call just move down the dialogue and press enter on the right phone number.
Method B:
Free Input; This option pops up a dialogue enabling you to enter a telephone number of the person you want to call. You can also enter the name of the person you are calling and a small reference about the call. Free Input can also be accessed by pressing one of the number keys or tapping on one of the nine boxes drawn on the top of the screen, providing you have entered your regularly called numbers into the Quick List file. See the "Quick List" chapter for more info.
Once you have either found the name from Method A or entered the number in Method B pressing enter will dial the number for you using which ever dial method you have chosen. (See Dialling Method chapter).
Once dialled there are options enabling you to access certain Psion functions. (See Options Chapter)
Any calls that you either make or receive are remembered.
Received calls are saved to file and can be easily reviewed using the "History","Received" (Shift-Control-R) menu option. Whereas dialled calls are held in memory. These calls will not be saved to file unless you save them, to save these calls you need to use "History","Dialled","Save Current Calls" (Shift-Control-S).
DIALLING
METHOD
There are three Dialling Methods available.
A. "Use Modem to Dial". This will then run a script to dial out through your modem.
B. Use DTMF
tones, this will send the telephone number to the inbuilt DTMF tones. To do this, it will actually launch the Data application, dial the number then return to Dialler.
Both of these methods will take account of the delay that you added in the preferences file. Should it not work please increase or reduce the delay as necessary.
C. Mimic Call, this will just flash the number in the bottom right hand corner. This setting is for those who like the program idea but don't actually use the Psion to do your dialling.
The dial setting does not keep switching itself on or off every time you open or close the program. Dialler will remember which setting you were using and keep it for the next session.
REGISTRATION
If you use this program please register. Please understand it is very difficult and time consuming writing programs. I do not do it to make lots of money but I do like to make some money.
Personally I don't agree with NOT crippling a program to unregistered users however this program is completely cripple free so prove me wrong.
Please register by sending
8.00 cash (STERLING) or Sterling/Euro cheques to:

Registration is possible via Compuserve. Go SWReg. The Registration id number for Dialler is 16663. This method will cost you $15.00.
Alternatively registration is possible via RegNet this method will also cost you $15. To register on line either use the Psion Web Application which can be accessed via the "Go Register" menu option in Dialler or go to "http://www.swregnet.com/1709p.htm"
MENU OPTIONS
CALLS
"Find & Dial:" Searches a Database for a selected piece of text. Then once found displays the numbers relating to that person or company. If the chosen Database is in use when Dialler wants to search it, Dialler will close it first. Once this procedure has been completed Dialler will reopen the database that it has closed.
"Free Input:" Enables you to enter the number, name and reference of somebody you want to call.
"Receive:" Enables you to enter details of someone calling you whilst timing call.
"Found Names:" Every time you use Dialler to find a Name in your Database, it will remember the phone number of every name that it finds, this saves time searching for Names in a Database again. These names are held in memory until you exit Dialler.
HISTORY
The purpose of the History menu options is to track the History of calls made and received.
"RECEIVED"
The first menu option is "Received". This will show any calls that you have received. If this menu options appears dim this is because there is no "Received Records" file.
Once used it displays a dialogue with the details of the received calls. The dialogue has several self explanatory options. These are "Erase", which will erase the details that you see on screen, "Next", which will show you the next received call, "OK" which will clear the dialogue, "Re-Dial", which will re-dial the number displayed for that received call. If you use re-dial the name and reference of the call will automatically be added to the outgoing records Finally there is "Edit Note" which will let you edit the name, number reference and Note for the call.
"DIALLED CALLS"
This option is split into fhree sub-categories. These are "Current Calls","Saved Calls" & "Save Curret Calls".
Current Calls: These are numbers that you have called since you entered the program. It is important to remember that these numbers will be cleared when you exit the program unless you use the "Save Current Calls" (Shift-Control-S). The maximum amount of numbers held in memory is 30. So if you reach this number then it may be necessary to save some to file or go through each one erasing unwanted records.
When displaying calls that you have made Dialler also enables you to "Erase" the current record, go to the "Next" item, press "OK"
to clear the dialogue, or to re-dial the number or "Edit Note" to edit the details of the person plus the note for the call.
If you do chose to re-dial the number then the re-dialled number will also be added as valid called number.
Saved Calls: This will browse through all the records that you have saved to file. This then builds a list of all of your important calls.
When displaying calls that you have Saved, Dialler also enables you to "Erase" the current record, go to the "Next" item, press "Escape" ("OK")
to clear the dialogue, "Re-Dial" to re-dial the number or "Edit Note" or "Add Note" depending whether you have added a Note to the call.
If you chose to re-dial the number then the re-dialled number will also be added as valid called number.
Save Current Calls: Each call that you make is automatically added to the "Current Calls" section. This section can only hold a maximum of thirty calls, if you try to exceed thirty the thirtieth record will be cleared and the thirty first will then become the thirtieth. Therefore it is advisable to save the called numbers to file every so often.
If you "Exit" the program the "Called Numbers" are NOT remembered unless you save the recorded numbers to file.
"FILTER"
Filter has two sub procedures, filter received calls and filter dialled calls.
Filter Saved: This pops up a dialogue which will allow you to enter a search string, you also have three types of information that you can filter. These are Names, Numbers and Reference's.
This should be quite self explanatory, i.e Enter a piece of text, select Dialler to search the Name field and Dialler will look for that name in all of the Saved calls.
Filter Received: This works in exactly the same way as the "Filter Saved" option except that it obviously searches Received calls.
SPECIAL
"EXPORT"
Using Export you can export all of the saved called records, whether these be dialled calls or received calls, to a text file.
Using the Word application you can than merge this text file into a word file for viewing, printing or editing.
"PREFERENCES"
This option has two sub-menu options, these are:
"Preferences"
Preference will let you change your modem initialisation string, plus add any dial out codes, it also allows you to add any charge card information. Finally it also allows you to change the default database hat Dialler searches when using the "Find & Dial" option plus lets you edit the search fields for this Database search. Please see the "Setting Up Dialler" section.
"Dialling Method"
This option is used to select your preferred Dialling setting. You can chose which method suits you best.
Use Modem:
If set to this when dialling Dialler will run a Comms script and dial out through your modem.
tones:
This will send the telephone number to the inbuilt DTMF tones. To do this, it will actually launch the Data application, dial the number then return to Dialler.
Mimic Call:
This will just flash the number in the bottom right hand corner. This setting is for those who like the program idea but don't actually use the Psion to do your dialling.
The dial setting does not keep switching itself on or off every time you open or close the program. Dialler will remember which setting you were using and keep it for the next session.
"OPEN DATA FILE"
This will pop up the "Open File Dialogue" allowing you to open a database (via the Data app) of your choice. This will work even if the Data file is in use.
"OPEN WORD FILE"
This will pop up the "Open File Dialogue" allowing you to open a word file of your choice. This will work even if the file is in use.
"DELETE
SAVED
CALLS FILE"
All saved calls are held in a file, this option lets you delete that file. If the file does not exist this menu option will be dimmed.
"DELETE RECEIVED
CALLS FILE"
Received Calls are also held in a file, this option lets you delete that file. Once again this option will be dimmed if the Received calls file does not exist.
"CLOSE"
Closes the program.
TOOLS
"SHOW TOOLBAR"
This is much the same as the usual Psion software where by it adds or removes the Toolbar.
"ABOUT"
Shows a dialogue about the latest versions of Dialler.
"HELP"
Opens the Help file.
"REGISTER"
Enter the Code details that you must first purchase from me. Once you have registered the file GoRegister.opo, nag screens and the Register menu options will be removed.
"GO REGISTER"
This procedure will automatically run the Psion Web application and go to the specific Dialler Registration page via RegNet. Registration via this method is much quicker and will cost you $15.00 (Please note that is 15 US Dollars).
"QUICK LIST"
Quick List has two options, these are "Add" and "Edit".
Quick list is a quick method to get to numbers that you dial daily. There are nine available quick list entries.
Adding:
To add a quick list number choose "Quick List", "Add" and enter a name and number. This will automatically add that name and number to the first entry in the quick list file and the details will be assigned to the number "1" key, obviously subsequent entries will be assigned to the next available number. Whilst entering the details you will see the entry number that will be assigned to the details.
Once you have entered some details you will see the name of the person in the first available box on the screen. Tapping this box will bring up the "Free Input" dialogue enabling you to dial this number quickly. Alternatively if you press the number key that relates to that name i.e In this case number 1, this will also bring up the dialogue.
Editing:
To edit a name/number choose "Quick List","Edit" and choose an entry number that you would like to edit. Once chosen you will see the details that are held for that entry number.
"OPTIONS"
Options are automatically displayed every time you make a call.
The options presented are:
Cancel: Cancels options.
Create Note: Lets you attach a Note to the call.
Record Note: Creates a "Sound" file called "Record". If you want to keep the recorded note then I would advise saving the recorded file as a different filename. This is because if you use the option again it will reopen the same record file rather than creating a new one.
Create Word: this will let you create a new Word file. Just enter a filename and press enter.
Time Call: This option lets you Time a call. As I said above if the "Options" are called from the menu or hotkey this option is disabled. It is only available directly after Dialler has dialled a call.
TaskList: This pops up the System TaskList letting you jump to any open files in the usual manor.
Problems using Dialler:
Dialler does have some problems when searching for names, in certain Databases. The problem occurs because the Psion 5 Databases can have different types of fields i.e Text fields and Date fields or number fields. From a programming aspect I have not managed to overcome this situation therefore it may be necessary for you to experiment with your databases, to do this, using "Edit Preferences" choose a database for Dialler to open, once chosen press enter, then in the next dialogue you are prompted for the field positions of certain information just choose field one, two, three, four, five, and six then press enter.
Now let Dialler try to open the database, to do this choose the "Find & Dial" option in Dialler (Control D) and type in a name to "Find", you will see the name of your database that you chose as your main file to search, now press enter, hopefully Dialler will read this file and show you the first found name, if you get an error message then this database is not compatible with Dialler and you will have to try another or copy information to one that works. To choose another Database just choose "Main Preferences" from Diallers "Preferences" menu or just touch the "Edit" icon on the toolbar.
I will endeavour to overcome this problem as soon as possible. Once you know Dialler will work with a certain database you can now set it up properly. To do this go to the database (Shift-Control-O) and choose the "Change Label" option (Control L), you will now see the names of your Field Labels, this is the order that Dialler needs to know. Therefore if your "Name" field is the first label then Dialler needs to know it, if the Mobile number is the sixth field then mobile is number six. I would advise writing down the position of the main fields i.e Name, Home, Work, Fax, & Mobile. You can now go back to Dialler and chose the "Main Preferences" option (Control P) and reset the field positions. I hope this is all clear, if not then please don't hesitate to mail me "tsteven@cix.co.uk"
