This is a simple little application which I have migrated form my Psion Series 3a. The sole purpose of the application is to assist OPL developers who are trying to ascertain the ASCII or Hex equaivalents for certain chharacters. It may also prove useful for users trying to enter obscure characters into a Word document.
FILE DETAILS
The program consists of the following essential files:
Ascii Viewer.app - The main program file
Ascii Viewer.aif - The icons used in the System screen
Toolbar.mbm - Icons used for the toolbar
Note that no helptext facility is supplied, but believe me you will not need one!
INSTALLATION
To install manually.
1. Create a directory called C:\System\Apps\Ascii Viewer\ (or use drive D:)
(You may need to select 'Show 'System' folder' in the 'Preferences' menu first)
2. Copy 'Ascii Viewer.app', 'Ascii Viewer.aif' and 'Toolbar.mbm' into that directory.
e.g.
C:\System\Apps\Ascii Viewer\Ascii Viewer.app
C:\System\Apps\Ascii Viewer\Ascii Viewer.aif
C:\System\Apps\Ascii Viewer\Toolbar.mbm
RUNNING THE PROGRAM
Start the program by selecting 'Extras' from the Application bar and then 'AsciiViewer'.
The program take a couple of seconds to generate the ASCII table, but will then display the character set in Courier font.
At the bottom of the screen there is displayed the character currently selected, and the hexadecimal and decimal equivalents.
To select an alternative character there are three possible methods :
1) Press the key of that character
2) Select the character using the arrow keys (use CTRL as a modifier)
3) Tapping on the character using the pen.
