Here's just a small guide to help anyone who is not used to making cocktails on a regular basis.
BLEND: Put ingredients into a blender. Blend the ingredients together for about 15-25 seconds. (Please note that if you are going to put ice into your blender, make sure that it is crushed first as damage could be caused to the blades.
STIR: Put the ingredients into a stirring glass/jug. Stir and then empty into your chosen glass.
SHAKE: Put ingredients into a cocktail shaker (Usually with ice), then pour into your chosen glass, straining off the ice.
BUILD: Just pour the ingredients one on top of the other.
LAYER: Very carefully pour the alcohols on top of each other so as to create a layered effect. This is mainly done with shooters like B52's. You may find using a spoon helps.
GLASSES
HIGHBALL: Tall straight 1/2 pint glass, also used for beer/lager.
OLD FASHIONED: Whisky tumbler.
SHOOTER: Very similar to a shot glass but will hold two measures (50ml).
GOBLET: Similar to a wine glass except the receptical part is wider and more squat.
COCKTAIL: The kind of glass you would see James Bond drink his vodka martini from. (V-shaped stemmed glass).
Make your drink look interesting, pleasing to the eye. Never put too many decorations around the glass else you'll look like Del boy.
Make sure your ice is clear not frosty looking.
When blending- always put the least expensive items in first, like the fruit juices,cream etc. because if you make a mistake valuable spirits aren't wasted.
When putting fruit around a glass cut it thinly, lumps of fruit are unsightly.
