  39. FileLink can only support folder links for machines of the following languages:
  40. English, French, German, Italian and Dutch.
  41. This is because links to folders rely on sending key pressed messages to the system screen in order to create a temporary folder.
  42.   I can add support for other languages if you email me the shortcut keys used for 'Create new folder' in your system screen menu. I will also need the 'Language code' for you machine. This is displayed by FileLink when you try and create a folder link.
  43. A target is the thing that a link opens when it is used. There are four types of these:
  44. File - A file to be opened
  45. Folder - A folder you want to change the system screen view to. (See Folder links.)
  46. Program - A program to start.
  47. Batch Folder - A link to a folder, this will open up all the files contained in it. (See Batch folder links.)
  48. FileLink creates link files on a Psion 5 in a similar way that Windows95 uses shortcuts. That is a file, which when run, will open up another file or folder.

  52. If the file that you select as the target for a link does not belong to a program that you have on your Psion, then you will be asked to select a program to open it with.
  53.   This facility enables you to create links to files that you can't normally open by tapping on their icon. This does however require that you have a program that responds to requests to open these files - and they seem to be in short supply. (E.g. if you have VReader5 you can create links to text files or compressed book files.)

  55. When a link of type Batch Folder is run it will cause all files in a folder to be opened. These files can be of any type but it is most useful if they are links to other files.
  56.   This lets you create a folder where you can put links to all the files and programs that you normally have open on your machine. You can then create a Batch Folder link to this and run it to restore your machine after a reset or backup.
  57.   Files will be opened in alphabetical order so if you want a link to be opened last you should rename it so it comes at the end.
  58. You can create links by using New file from the system screen and selecting FileLink, or by using the icon for FileLink on the extras bar. In the later case you will need to select the New button on the dialogue box that then appears.
  59.   First you will be asked to select the target type for the link, then the specific target. (See Target types.)
  60.   Finally you will need to give a name for the link and a folder to put it in. This name will default to the same name as the target but with the prefix 'Link to ' added. (See Link name prefix.)
  61. The prefix for file link names can be changed by using the Preferences button when FileLink is run from the extras bar.
  62.   This prefix may include the name of a folder, e.g. 'C:\Links\Link to '. In this case the default location suggested for a link file will be in 'C:\Links'.

  68. You can create links to files on disk Z if you select the Allow links to files on disk Z checkbox in Preferences.

  70. You can create links to HTML, JPEG and GIF files. These files will be opened with the Web Browser if you have this on your Psion.
