2EChoose the Circle of 5th's option on the menu or press <Shift><Psion><C>
The circle of 5th's is a tool useful in the composition of new music.
You enter what key your piece of music is in and the chart is then displayed. The key that you chose is at the top "12 o'clock" position of the circle. The chords that are most relevant to this piece of music can be found by going clockwise or counter clockwise from the top.
For example, in the key of C the obvious starting chord is the C chord itself. If you go one position clockwise, the G chord is suggested.
This is the called the "5th" in relation to the C chord and would most certainly be used in the music piece.
This also applies by going counter clockwise from the top which would indicate the F chord
(the "4th" in relation). This chord also would be found in a vast majority of songs in the Key
of C.
In the lower left corner is the "Relative Minor" or 6th chord in relation to the Key you are
playing in. In the case of a song in the key of C, the relative minor is Am (A minor). This is the
chord most likely used to create some tension in a song. It is very common to find it as the second
to last chord in the song or in the chorus of a song, which then ends on the Key of the song. This "releaves the tension" and is what makes the music have closure.
