?BCompanion is designed to be run after the Email application, but it is not vital (It just looks better!).
When you run Companion, you will see that the toolbar buttons on the right of the screen have changed. You will have four new buttons :
Signature - Commands for signatures
Addresses - Fax and email addresses
Option - Companion options
Exit - Exit Companion (!)
These buttons can be accessed using the following keyboard shortcuts :
Signature - s
Addresses - a
Option - o
Exit - x
Use these shortcuts without any modifiers. Ie just press 's', not 'Ctrl-s'
BOnce you have created a signature, its name will appear at the bottom of the popup menu which appears when you select the 'Signature' toolbar button. If there are too many signatures to fit on the screen, there will be a 'More...' option which will give you access to all of your signatures.
To use a signature, begin a new email in Message Suite as you would normally. Write the email, and then, before you send, position the cursor where you want to insert the signautre.
Now, select Compainon from the extra's bar. Choose the 'Signautre' toolbar button. The signatures that you have defined should be listed at the bottom of the popup menu. Select one of these, and it will be inserted into your email.
That's it! Send the email.
VCOnce you have entered some email addresses into Companion, you can insert then into Message suite.
Start a new email, and place the cursor in the box where you want to insert the address (usually the 'to' box). Select Companion from the Extra's Bar, and choose the 'Addresses' toolbar button. Select 'Insert' from the 'Email' section on the popup menu.
You will then be prompted to choose an address to insert. Select the appropriate one, followed by 'Insert'. The address will be inserted into the email.
Note : You can insert email addresses anywhere in Message Suite using this method. For example if you wanted to send a friends email address to someone, via email, just place the cursor anywhere in an email, and insert your friends address from the Companion email address book. It will always be insterted at the current cursor position.
YCOnce you have entered some numbers into your Companion fax number database, you can insert them into Message Suite.
The best time to insert a fax number is immediately after you have created a new fax - while [Country] is still highlighted.
If this is not the case, delete any number which has already been entered, then select the [Country] section of the fax number, and run Companion.
Choose the 'Addresses' toolbar button, followed by the 'Insert' option from the 'Fax' section. A dialog will appear from which you can choose a fax number from your fax number database. Select the 'Insert' button, and the number will be entered into the fax.
Note : If you leave any of the fields blank when entering your fax numbers (ie the country codes), I think that Message Suite will fill in the missing information, if it can, from the dialing properties.
CThe following are general instructions, which apply to both the Email Address functions and to the Fax Address functions of Companion.
To add, edit or delete email or fax addresses, select the 'Addresses' toolbar button, and then choose the appropriate 'Setup' option from the popup menu.
A dialog box will appear, from which you can select one of the following three options :
This allows you to add a new email address / fax number. Enter a name to identify the address / number in the 'Name' box. Then either enter the email address, or the fax number. Select 'Add' to save your entry.
Edit (Registered Users Only)
When you have entered some addresses, you will be able to access the edit button. Before choosing 'Edit', you should select the address you wish to change in the 'Select' line of the dialog. Make the changes you require, and select 'Update'.
Delete
This will delete the entry whose name is selected in the 'Select' line of the dialog box.
EYou can access up to 25 email signatures from Companion. There are 3 options which allow you to create, edit and delete signautres.
Adding a Signature
Select the 'Signature' toolbar button, and choose 'Add' from the menu that appears. You must enter a name for your signature, which will be used to identify it. It is best to keep this short, and not to use punctuation characters (eg , . : ; etc). Enter the text you want for the signature in the box below the name and select 'Okay' to save your signature.
Editing a Signature (Registered Users Only)
If you want to change any of your signatures at any time, you can use the edit facility. Select the 'Signature' toolbar button, and then choose 'Edit' from the menu that pops up. You will be prompted to choose which signautre you want to edit. Select a signature and press the 'Edit' button. The edit dialog box will now appear, and you can change the text for the signature you selected.
Note : If you want to create a copy of a signautre, then you can choose to edit it, and change the name.
Deleting a Signature
If you decide you no longer like a signature, it can be deleted to free up space. Select the 'Signature' toolbar button, followed by 'Delete' from the popup menu. You will be asked to choose which signautre you want to delete.

Adds comment symbols (>) to email messages.
Note : Unregistered users cannont use any of the "edit" functions.
DEmail Signatures
Once you have created your signatures, run the Email application and write your email. Before sending, place the cursor where you wish to insert your signature, run companion, and select the signature you want to insert.
Email Addresses
Enter your email addresses into Companion. When you wish to insert an address from your address book, start a new email, and put the cursor in the 'to' box. Run Companion, select 'Insert' from the Addresses > Email toolbar button.
Fax Numbers
Start a new fax. Make sure the 'Fax Number' box is empty, and place the cursor at the beggining of the box. Run Companion, select 'Insert' from the Addresses > Fax toolbar button.
Commenting
To add comment symbols to a reply email, start the reply and select the text you wish to comment. Copy it to the clipboard using Ctrl-C, or using the menus. Select Options > Comment from the Companion toobar. When the Companion toolbar dissapears, select paste in Email, and the commented text should overwrite the original text.
zCThe options will allow you to set Companion to automatically close after certian things are inserted.
As it is, Companion will always move into the background whenever you insert anything into Message Suite. When it does this however, it is still actually running.
The main advantage to leaving companion running after inserting a signature (or whatever) is that next time you select it from the extra's bar (say when you write your next email) it will not have to load, and will therefore appear considerably more quickly.
However, if you only ever write one email per "session", you may wish to set it so that it stays running after insterting an email address, but closes after inserting a signature.
You can also set the width to format the text to when commenting, and set the comment character which is placed at the beginning of each line. The defaults are 65 chars wide and >

When you first run Companion, you should set which version of the Email application you are using in 'Options'.
Select V1.xx if you are using an original Series 5, or a Geofox, or anything else using Email software earlier than Version 2.
Select V2.xx if you are using a Series 5mx, or a Series 7, or any other machine running Email software Version 2 or later.
