  10. UK Pocket Directory is a complete UK-specific database, covering business,
  11. travel, leisure and utility categories, plus many, many others. It uses
  12. the power of the Series 5 Data application to provide search and browsing 
  13. functions.

  27. UK Pocket Directory is shareware. This does not make it a free program!
  28. Yes, you can give it to friends and colleagues. Yes, you can keep a
  29. copy on your Psion without registering and we won't mind too much.
  30. But **please** play fair with shareware:

  32. - If you find it genuinely useful
  33. - If you want to reward the compilers for the hard work in researching it
  34. - If you want to have a say in what categories are included in future
  35.   versions
  36.  
  37. ... then you should register. It's only a small one-off fee and you're then
  38. registered for life.

  40. All information in the database is collected, filtered and compiled
  41. from public domain sources or from hobbyists in various fields with
  42. their kind permission. If *you* notice an error, please get in touch.
  43. There are various prizes and incentives to reward useful corrections.

  45. Installation.
  46. ------------
  47. If you unzipped UK Pocket Directory OK, you should have ended up with
  48. 2 separate files. One will be this text file 8-)
  49.  
  50. The other is ukpd.sis. If you know what a .SIS file is, just double-click on
  51. it in Win95 Explorer or tap on it on the Series 5 and you'll be installed in
  52. no time.

  54. If you *don't* know what a .SIS file is, this must be one of the very first
  55. third party applications you've ever installed. Don't worry, it's all quite 
  56. painless:

  58.   IF you have the older PsiWin 2.01 or if you've downloaded UK Pocket Directory directly
  59.   onto the Psion 5, the best way to proceed is to copy the .SIS file into a
  60.   suitable place on your Psion. If the .SIS file appears on the system screen
  61.   with a question mark beside it, this just means you haven't yet upgraded your
  62.   Series 5 to accept EPOC install files. Grab a copy of the special INSTEXE.EXE
  63.   program from the same place as you obtained UK Pocket Directory and tap on
  64.   it on your Psion. You should now see a nice little icon beside the ukpd.sis file
  65.   and can tap on it to complete your installation.

  67.   IF you have PsiWin 2.1 or above, just double-click on the file to launch EPOC
  68.   Install on the PC itself and to complete the UKPD installation.

  70. If all went well, you should now have a new "Directory" icon on your
  71. Extras bar.

  74. Copying information into another Psion application
  75. --------------------------------------------------
  76. Simply highlight the information you wish to copy in UK Pocket Directory and
  77. use either Control-C or the silk-screen Copy button. Paste into the other app.

  80. Hints and tips
  81. --------------
  82. Note that the searching process usually takes place *without* a flashing 
  83. 'Searching' message etc. This is due to the way Psion implemented the
  84. help engine software. You can tell how many matches the software is
  85. finding by looking at the record no. legend (bottom-centre of the
  86. screen), which will say 1/n, where n is the number of matches so far.

  89. Launching STD Database v2.4
  90. ---------------------------
  91. UKPD can also launch Stefan's UK STD codes database in parallel. A copy
  92. of STD codes in the right format can be downloaded from the same place
  93. as UK Pocket Directory. Install the STD database as UKStd.hlp
  94. in the main \System\Apps\Director folder and the UK Pocket Directory
  95. launcher application will then work with it as well.

  100. 1) To speed up registrations, you can quote your email address for
  101.    quick return of your registration code, or use the Internet RegNet
  102.    scheme.

  104. 2) On-line support for UK Pocket Directory and other versions can be
  105.    found on the World-Wide-Web at http://3lib.ukonline.co.uk/

  107. 3) If you give UK Pocket Directory to a friend (as is encouraged with
  108.    shareware!), then make sure you do *not* give your friend your
  109.    "Director.reg" registration file, as this is unique to you and
  110.    contains *your* name, and subsequent piracy will tell the world who
  111.    started the outbreak!
