- It was a cold and rather blustery day in November that heralded the
- arrival of the Kruger family to their new home in Zagreb. Misty and
- overcast, the leaves long since fallen, a rather barren landscape
- confronted Anne Kruger as she stepped from the carriage. She drew a
- sigh as she looked up and down the platform. No sign of the man
- supposed to meet her. Well, first things first, she thought and turned
- to beckon her two children from the train. At that moment she gasped
- as she felt a hand on her shoulder. A heavy hand, gloved in rough
- leather, grasping her shoulder with an insistence which startled her
- and, she realized later, drew a certain fear. She turned to face the
- owner who announced "you are Anne Kruger, I have come for you".
