- Besides sushi there are many other popular foods in Japan.Yakitori is chicken
- and vegetables on skewers that are cooked on an open flame. You will be able
- to find yakitori at a robata-yaki. A robata-yaki is a kind of food bar that
- customers sit around and call out their orders to the chef at the center. The
- raw foods are placed in a display so if you can point- you can eat.
- If you are planning to drive in Japan you will have to bring an international
- license with you. The license is available at the AAA for a nominal fee.
- In Japan cars have the steering wheel on the opposite side and drive on the
- opposite side of the road than in the U.S. -so be careful. Many roads in
- Japan are very narrow but the Japanese are considered very good drivers.
- Noodles in a soup base are extremely popular in Nihon. Various types of
- noodles are used in these dishes: soba, udon, and somen. Often a fried
- shrimp or some beef is added. To eat these dishes you should first pick
- out and eat the noodles with your chopsticks. Slurping is encouraged! When
- you finish the noodles pick up the bowl and drink the soup.
