-
- I. What does it do?
-
- College will provide a transcript on the screen or printer in an
- instant! It will print out a class schedule with locations, days
- and times for any semester! It will track all the classes you have
- from your freshman year through graduate work! It will keep track
- of class assignments, papers due, or other notations for any or all
- classes. It will give you a GPA for the current semester or an overall
- GPA with the press of a key or two. It keeps track of credit hours
- too! It keeps track of elective and required courses. And just for
- convenience, College provides a Current Calendar and a full functioning
- Calculator, with floating or fixed point calculations. A full TEXT
- EDITOR is included to "do your home work" with, or to write letters
- or any word processing with PRINTING that you need!!
-
- II. Starting Up...
-
- The program has extensive help screens and prompts, so this instruction
- manual will not go into any great detail. The program is as "user
- friendly" as I could make it!!
-
- College is a stand-alone program that requires no external drivers to run.
- It creates its own data files for the classes you enter. It is best run
- on a system with 512K or more and a hard drive, though it will run on a
- floppy system well. It does require a color monitor and color graphics,
- whether CGA, EGA, or VGA... For a hard drive system, copy COLLEGE.EXE
- into its own directory. All data files created by COLLEGE will be in
- this directory also. Therefore, always run College from the directory
- or floppy where the XXXX.CLG files are located. Simply type COLLEGE
- at the DOS prompt and press ENTER to start the program.
-
- III. Entering Data (Classes)
-
- Choose 'A' from the main menu to enter data for any semester. A listing
- of semesters and college years will be displayed. Choose the one you
- wish to enter data for with the number or letter to the left of it.
- If it is a "clean" file, a data input screen will appear. If you have
- data already for that semester and year, the program will tell you this.
- To enter data for a "clean" semester, simply follow the prompts on the
- bottom of the screen. You can press ESCAPE to get out of a data entry
- field. To abort an entry, simply press ESC and follow the instructions
- in the pop up window on the screen. The fields are defined with [ ]
- brackets and a highlight to show you how much room you have for entering
- data. Any data that overlaps the brackets will be truncated. After an
- entry is completed and saved, you will be prompted to enter another or
- quit. Select yes to enter more classes, or No when finished. Enter the
- data from your current class schedule in this area. Be sure to enter a
- GRADE!! If you are currently enrolled in the class enter your current
- grade (Enter an A if you aren't sure, and you can edit this later when
- you know your grade!) But be sure to enter a grade!!
-
- IV. Viewing/Editing data (Classes)
-
- Choose the appropriate menu selection to edit a class file. Select the
- semester and year to view or edit. This function is the heart of the
- program. You may add class assignments, test dates or scores, or any
- information you like in the comments section for each class. Keep up
- with paper assignments, tests, etc this way. If you drop a class, it
- may be deleted with a simple key stroke from this function. There is a
- help line at the bottom of each screen, giving instructions for each
- function. The ESC key will return you to the main menu from any function
- in this area, except the editing... you must key in all fields or hit
- enter to go to the next... the screen help line will prompt you...
-
- V. GPA display
-
- Choose this menu item to display any one semester or an overall GPA!
- This is calculated from the class schedules. Be sure to put in your
- current grade for any course you are currently taking, and the final
- grade for any course you have completed so the GPA will be accurate!
-
- VI. Print/Display a Transcript
-
- This function will display/Print a listing of all courses, the
- instructor, hours earned and grades, whether the course was a (M)ajor
- or (E)lective and will give you a total for the hours and a GPA....
- Simply follow the screen prompts!
-
- VII. A full function TEXT EDITOR may be accessed by selecting 'E' from the
- Main Menu. An Editor Menu will be displayed. Approximately 4 Pages may be
- entered into any one file, and as many files as necessary may be created.
- Editor functions are outlined below. To quit the text editor (abort the
- edit), press ESC. You will be returned to the main menu and no changes
- will be made in the file, if you are editing one, and no file will be
- created if it is a new document. When you have entered all your text
- and wish to save the document, press F-1. You will be prompted for a
- file name. Enter up to eight characters but DO NOT ENTER AN EXTENSION!!
- Pressing ESC or ENTER without entering a filename aborts the function and
- ALL TEXT WILL BE LOST, if it is a new document!! Press enter after
- entering a filename and the document will be saved to that file name with
- the extension .CTX. For a NEW DOCUMENT, select A from the Editor menu.
- Enter the text and then F-1 to save it, as above. Select B to edit an
- existing document. A directory of documents will be displayed. Select
- the one you want with the up and down ARROW keys. When the document you
- wish to edit is highlighted, press enter. The editor will be displayed
- with the text from that document. Select C to print a document. Again,
- select the document you wish to print with the ARROW keys and press enter.
- If the printer is ready, the document will begin to print.. If the printer
- is not ready, a warning window will be displayed. Press ESC to abort the
- printing, or make the printer ready and press the SPACE BAR to print
- the document. Selecting Q from the Editor Menu will return you to the
- Main Menu, as will ESC.
