- INSTRUCTIONS FOR MARKING BOOK FOR PACING
-
- You will need to mark the book that you are going to read in the next
- exercise, so that you can pace yourself as you read. Measure the length
- of a line of print.
-
- If you want two clicks per line (you will look at two places on each
- line), make a mark in the middle of the first line. Then do the same
- thing on the last line on the page.
-
- Now connect the marks on the first and last lines of print, with
- vertical lines. This will divide the page into two vertical strips. As
- you read a line of print, you will look only once in each strip, about the
- middle of the section between the vertical lines.
-
- The next screen will explain how to mark for three or more clicks (eye
- fixations) per line.
-
-
- --More--
-
- For three clicks per line, divide the lines into thirds, then draw the
- vertical lines. If the lines of print are 6 inches long, you will have a
- vertical line 2 inches from each end, making vertical strips 2 inches wide.
-
- For four clicks per line, divide the page into four vertical sections,
- and so forth for other spacings. You shouldn't need more than three or
- four.
-
- As you read a line, you will look only at the center of each section.
- You should be able to read from three to seven (or more) words at each eye
- fixation.
-
- When you have marked the pages that you are going to read, hit the ESC
- key and get ready to read while the computer paces you: Choose 3 on the
- menu.
