- This file contains information about product features that are
- new or changed with this version. We've finally added the option to
- let you save your program settings and to record your typing
- statistics to a history file. We've also added two major advanced
- typing options: OPEN TYPING and LONG PARAGRAPHS. Open Typing offers a
- blank window with some minimum word-processing features; you can type
- anything you want in this window. Long Paragraphs gives you almost a
- full screen of pre-loaded text to type; the graphical keyboard is NOT
- displayed. Both of these advanced typing exercises have a TIMED
- TYPING option too. You can set the timer from one minute to twenty
- minutes.
-
-
- Here is a summary of modifications for this version of PC-FasType:
-
- Save Settings: Your drill or exercise selections and keyboard
- helpers can now be saved in a file on disk. The next time you
- want to practice typing, PC-FasType will remember all of your
- selections and settings.
-
- Save History: You can optionally save your typing statistics for
- each drill or exercise to a disk file.
-
- Kaps For Kids: Small children have difficulty telling the difference
- between upper and lower case letters (CAPS and small). Letters
- in any BEGINNER DRILLS selection will be shown in all CAPITALS.
- The shift key is not required.
-
- Open Typing: Advanced typists who want to practice their word
- processing skills can use open typing. You can navigate around
- the screen using the cursor keys; but watch that backspace key!
-
- Long Paragraphs: This feature disables the keyboard display and
- presents you with a full screen of material to type.
-
- Registration: Your registration code has been made much simpler to
- install then in previous versions. Proper use of the
- registration code will tell PC-FasType to bypass the Shareware
- information screens. (Registration gets you get a nice printed
- manual too).
-
- Network Usage: PC-FasType can be used on networks. The FTSPEC
- environment variable lets you save your program settings file
- and history file in your own private directory as specified by
- this environment variable.
-
- View Statistics: Your typing statistics for each drill or exercise
- has been expanded and is now shown in a full windowed screen.
-
- View History: You can view your typing performance history from
- either the statistics screen, or when you end your typing
- session.
-
- Print History: You can optionally print a paper record of your
- typing history file.
-
- Timed Exercises: Open Typing and Long Paragraphs let you optionally
- select TIMED exercises to last from one minute up to 20
- minutes.
-
- START Typing: Unlike earlier versions, the displayed timer for
- beginner drills, open typing, and long paragraphs will NOT
- start ticking until you type your FIRST keystroke.
-
- Drill count decrement: In addition to showing elapsed time at the
- top of the screen during DRILLS, a count of the remaining
- number of characters to type is also displayed.
-
- Expanded exercise material: The on-disk typing exercise material has
- been expanded for each of the intermediate and advanced menu
- selections.
-
- Additional keyboard: The CGA version now includes the Old-Style
- PC-XT keyboard. The three keyboard styles are the 101-key
- Enhanced, the AT-Style, and the PC-XT.
-
- Licensing Information: Several files have been added to the
- documentation self-extracting executable to help single-user,
- site, and right-to-copy licensee's with ordering and pricing
- (see: LICENSE.DOC, SITELICE.DOC, REGISTER.FRM).
-
- Installation: Alas, not all things are easy. Unlike earlier
- versions of PC-FasType that could be run immediately right out
- of the box, this version first requires an INSTALLATION
- procedure. See the README.1ST file for installation details.
